With 2 outs and nobody on Jose Cruz Jr (who was on the Pads last yr) came up. And it was obvious Cruz (who drew a walk) knew the change was coming on 3 and 2 and spit on it.

Obviously at 40, Hoffman's best yrs are behind him and it's gonna be a long yr for him.

if the padres have an ounce of intelligence, they will put him on the block. in fact they should have done it this off season before he was exposed yet again. his best is behind. get something for him if you still can.

how bout hoffman for a burrell type player. aint gonna get much better than that and philly needs a closer.

Hoffman would have a ERA of almost 5.00 in Philly and Burrell would probably hit .210 in Petco. Padres waited too long. They will finish under .500 this year.

IF Hoffman has a bad April...it would be really interesting to see if Bud Black makes the change to Cla Meredith. Meredith is nasty...but Hoffman is the "face" of this team. Tough.

I played against Trevor in highschool, he went to Savannah, he was a shortstop if I remember right as was Rob Nen. He went to U of A as an infielder, I dont think Trevor even pitched until he was 25.

BELL!!!

All I will say about Heath Bell is that he owes an awful lot to the "Left-hander".

Black took a mediocre middle man... with an ERA over 5...and turned him into a solid setup guy.

Hoffman looked good today...I hope he continues with more of the same.

im not bothered at all by what happened last night, the last 3 years i believe hoffman has blown a save the first week, then has gone on a long stretch of saves around late april/may.

but bell has the stuff to be a closer

Why do I have a feeling this thread is going to replace the Brad Lidge threads of the past few years.

Seems more often than not...that when managers use their closers in non-save situations...they give up runs.

But its the walks that are hurting Hoffman right now...the walk to Cruzjr and then the leadoff walk today.

He may not be what he was...but for 13 years he was able to build a HOF career. Hopefully he can get it together and still have a good April.
