I am taking Kansas City +160 (first 5). The starting pitcher for the Royals happens to be, Zack Greinke, a personal friend of mine. So, beware, I am extremely biased with this pick.

Funny story from my playing days with Zack. We were going into our sophomore year and Zack decided he needed to switch hit to help his draft stock with the scouts. 2 weeks into this experiment, he had never switch hit before, Zack is doing alright with the lefthanded bat. But, we went to Georgia to play a summer tournament when the story gets good. Zack, before his second at bat, turns to the dugout and tells us he is going to hit a HR. Of course, we all laugh because he : a) just started hitting left handed and b) hadnt even hit one out in BP. 3 pitches into the at bat, Zack hit a no doubter to the right field power alley. Needless to say, he had the last laugh in our dugout while becoming our version of Babe Ruth.

I drafted Zack Greinke on my fantasy team, like him to have a big season. Their is a reason he was a top prospect.

Were you around during his meltdown a few years back? Maybe you can shed some light on why he was a woman.

Filthy stuff, regardless.

Zack was always an unusual character. Really good guy, great friend and great to his family, but he would say some things that all we could do was laugh. Everyone thought he was all-world but a little different. I talked to him his second year up in the bigs when the Royals were playing in Tampa Bay. He met me down in the bullpen and we talked for a good 30 mins. He basically told me then that he hated playing for his manager and he didnt have any friends on the team. He was 21 and didnt have a single person to talk to in the clubhouse. It also didnt help that he had a bunch of veterans that saw him being named Mr.Franchise at the age of 21. He took some time off and figured out how easy life was with baseball and making a million a year is pretty easy to get by on. I think he should be fine from now on, especially because he is surrounded by a lot of high draft picks and a lot of young 20s future stars.

Personally, I havent talked to him in about a year but I will be making the trip to Tampa Bay and I can pretty much guarantee he would be happy to talk to me. I think this is the year he turns the corner. In previous seasons he was really holding himself back because he was trying to conserve himself. I think the time he spent in the bullpen allowed him to build up arm strength and see how good he could be throwing mid to high 90s, instead of high 80s to low 90s. Think of the difference in Pedro Martinez the last 5-6 years.
