Not saying if the Tigers lose, the season is over but from an orgainizational standpoint you dont want to ever start the season getting swept against the Royals AT HOME!!!

Not sticking my neck out on the line here with a -180ish favorite but there are good -180 favorites and this looks to me to be one of them to me. I probably bet less than 10 -180 or higher favorites all year in baseball.

The Tigers came into the season with very high expectations and need this game today to get this bad taste out of there mouths. Being a fan you can usually feel when the team you follow is ready to do something before it does it, good or bad and today just feel like a winning spot for them. We shall see.

its not a must win and the royals will be much improved this season, with that being said Detroit should cover the RL today.

Well i thought the same about the win..then said the play is the over, because there bats have to be better than the last 2 games.

Iceman,

No offense, the thought that the 3rd game of the season means "A LOT" is insane.

From a betting standpoint, a lot will load up on the Tigers with the thought that they can't lose 3 in a row. The Tigers will be fine in the end and will probably win the division, but it is very possible that they will get swept at home by the Royals. They aren't playing well right now, specifically in the hitting department.

From a fan standpoint, the panic button should not be hit. I very much doubt that anyone in the organization is panicked.

Maybe the Royals are much better than people think. I have listened to both games, and have come away very impressed with the Royals offense and defense.

Gmoney,

Why do their bats have to be better today? Is 2 games the threshold for slumps?

Maybe I should change the title of the thread. I think most know what I mean. There is a sense of urgency to win today and everyone knows it from the manager to the players. Right or wrong you can't get swept at home against the Royals to start the season without alot of people freaking out, not me but alot of people in this town are not happy so I would expect and extra special effort today, maybe that is how I should have phrased but it is what I meant.

With that said I think you can take advantage of this spot today and -180 has value cause of it and I dont say that much.

G Money,
I thought the same thing but I think Bonderman is going to have a huge year so I figure just a win is all I am looking for.

Why should they cover the runline against a pitcher who, at times, is unhittable? Do you even know who is pitching for the Royals? Can you name 5 players on the Royals? Just curious.

Again, I respectfully disagree. The Tigers may cash today, but to lay -180 with a team that appears lost at the plate right now against a scrappy bunch with some decent talent does not represent value, no matter what kind of urgency there is. It may take the Tigers 5, 10 or 20 games to come alive. They may never come alive. Right now, baseball is being bet on expectations alone, and expectations can and sometimes are incorrect.

Can this urgency cause the players or manager or both to press a bit and make the slumps worse?

You should change the title of this thread...

Does not matter what team it is in MLB...there is no such thing as a "must-win" in the 3rd game of the season.

BTW...Hillman had the Royals playing real well in 'Zona. He has a young and talented roster. They are not the same old Royals, IMO.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Bonderman's worst month historically has been August (5-18, 5.81 ERA). His second worst month? April (9-9, 4.90). The record may not be so bad on a team that is hitting, the Tigers are not hitting though.

Greinke's best month is September (7-5, 2.99). His second best month is April (1-4, 3.58). Record doesn't mean much since he's been on a horrible team throughout his career.

obvious play on KC today to fade thinking just like this.

same with Nats

what were these two teams supposed to do since the overrated overpriced fan faves Philly and Detroit need to win, roll over and die? methinks Nats and Royals want to win as well

haha, your funny. YOu want to stereotype me as someone who just think the fav should blow out a team. Of course I know who Greinke is, he is their best talent on the rotation. I say that because I am not sure how deep in the game Greinke will go, so Detroit would have a good shot vs the Royals pen.

Someone asked Chuck Tanner early in the year how he felt about starting the year with a few losses. His answer:

"Everyone will lose 54 games and win 54 games, it's the other 54 games that count!"

And so it goes......

Sheffield and Polanco are horrible. 30 count on Polanco and he gets out. Sheff gets a 20 count and gets out. Sheffield doesnt have a hit this year.
