Take the top 16 teams and put them in the playoffs.

Maybe look something like this with 1st round matchups:

#1 Boston versus #16 Philadelphia
winner of that series plays winner of
#8 Houston versus #9 Dallas

#4 San Antonio versus #13 Cleveland
winner of that series plays winner of
#5 LA Lakers versus #12 Golden State

#2 Detroit versus #15 Toronto
winner of that series plays winner of
#7 Utah versus #10 Orlando

#3 New Orleans versus #14 Portland
winner of that series plays winner of
#6 Phoenix versus #11 Denver

or maybe re seed after every round.

The key question is would you rather see them put the 16 best records in the NBA playoffs or stay with the curent format? Most year's it seems they get it close too right but this year there seems to be a HUGE difference in conferences.

No, I would be in favor of the NBA getting rid of 6 teams.

In response to your question, what happens when the East becomes too strong. It is what it is. Happens in the NFL every 5 to 10 years. Remember when the NFC was strong, now everyone complains how bad the NFC is.

If you have a proposal that would eliminate 6 teams and about 90 players included IR guys, that would be great. The NBA hasn't been good since about the mid -90's

All divisions and conferences should be eliminated in every sport, except baseball, which should compete in American and National League formats only.

I just wish the NBA season was shorter and the playoffs would just start...geez it is a long season, ugh... I have not watched one minute this year of any game...I only watch the playoffs:dancefool

i think they should only let the western conference go to the playoffs.. Nobody wants to see philly and toronto get massacre'd. They cant even win in the east.

just replace seattle and minny with boston and detroit and eliminate the entire eastern conference. That should fix it.

5-6 years from now, all the strength will be in the east.

right now, all the strength is in the west.
owners are spending money on big free agents and making blockbuster trades to win now.

see: iverson
see: shaq
see: kidd

eventually, the window will close for these teams. players gets older. payrolls get too high. it hasnt happened yet. but its right around the corner.

in the meantime, you have somebody like an atlanta who gutted their team and started from scratch and is going to be very good in the coming years. same with orlando. same with cleveland. same with toronto.

eventually, teams in the east will feel like they can win 'now'. trades and free agents start flowing back toward the east coast.

no need to change anything. just keep the playoffs as is.
