a game for seeding purposes ?

The West in particular.

Maybe lose to get a lower seed, and avoid somebody, or play somebody you'd rather play first instead of somebody else that matches up tougher.

Keep an eye on Dallas. Would think once they clinch a playoff spot they won't care whether they are 7th or 8th and will want to avoid the Spurs at all costs. With the cushion they have, it may not matter. But for them getting Dirk healthy and some rest for Howard, Kidd, Terry would be mroe important than being 7th as opposed to 8th.

Tough to get inside a coach's head and figure if he is smart enough to lose a game on purpose ( play scrubs) to get a better fitting playoff opponent... if he isn't smart enough to foul up 3 points with little time left.

Funny thing is, lots of teams probably SHOULD want to lost at this point (april 9).

Lakers should probably lose to get Houston

Wizards should lose to get Orlando

EVERYone should lose to get the young hornets including dallas and denver.

makes sense to me, aim for Houston not the Suns

Wizards should lose to get Orlando

sounds better than Clev

Dallas in better position to aim for NO instead of SA, Denver can't afford a loss, right on the edge of making it now.

Now which coaches think this way ?

I'm thinking Dallas might ?

Avery Johnson is too proud (and stupid) and old school to think this way. But Mark Cuban is NOT. The irony is Dallas plays New Orl the last game of the reg season.

I don't know the coaches thoughts.

So AJ is coach, and Cuban is owner of Mav's.

Are you suggesting Cuban orders AJ to try to lose, so they play NO instead of SA ?

I'd assume that any such dealings would not get down to player level, so the players still try to win, or at least play their normal game, and aren't in on the plan to lose ?

i don't think dallas will lose gms on purpose, although they may take the last game or two of the season as exhibition games if nothing can be gained. but im sure that it wouldn't need to get down on player level, a coach could make sure they lost the game if he wanted to.

Last nights game concern you at all? It was played with more of a playoff intensity than nearly all games this year due to importance of it. The exact problems I described with their offense were exposed last night.

I can guarantee that the Spurs aren't losing any games in order to face someone different in the playoffs - obviously, SA want the Rockets, Golden State or Denver in round 1 - I'm sure Dallas does not want SA in round 1 but I don't want them either - and the Hornets would be dogs as a 1 seed to the Mavs

I wish Dallas plays Houston in round 1

My future will be proud if that happens!

We aren't talking about what happens in the first round. We are just talking about which teams should lose so they have a better chance in the first round. Do you think that dallas/denver/GS has a better chance against the spurs? I hope not.

I think any of the current veteren teams would rather play the young hornets, they may not win, but they will have a better chance then playing @ SA.

I remember the first time I read this thread I laughed so hard.

This thread was basically about teams losing games on purpose so they can play the Hornets in the 1st round for an easy series.

Chop, you act like a 5 year old with these bumps. I know other ppl bump old threads too but it's super annoying when you do it. It must be your smackable personality.

i wasn't even impressed with the series victory over the Mavs, it cost me some coin but in hindsight, outside of experience there wasn't much reason to back mavs in that series. that was just a horrible bet. as far as this Spurs series goes, eager to see what New Orleans does in games 3/4
