Their is a home game in town that I attend every once in a while. I went this week and played the 2 sessions they had. Their were 11 players there for each game. Entry was 40 for the first one and 50 for the second one. 6000 starting chips . Blinds went up every time around.

The same guy deals every week and he also plays at the same time. He sits in the same chair to make it easy ( no problem with that ) .

Here is the issue : The dealer button always starts on him. Every game , every time. So with that , the blinds go up every time the button hits him.

This has got to be a huge advantage , YES ? I say so 100 % ..

They changed it for about 2 weeks when I and a few others complained. Then it right back on him again.

Ii dont go often to bitch about it , but I might start.

We draw cards for seats and should also draw cards for the starting button.

Oh by the way, I won both events and 4 last longer bets for 20 bucks each and came home with 500 bucks . This after showing up with 46 bucks in my pocket. Barely enough to cover the first entry fee.

Opinions welcome .....

NO .

Also, we pay 3 places like any other sit and go does with 9 or so players.

His reply is , its easier for him to keep track of when the blinds go up.

Fucking retarded if you ask me...

I would think it's a slight advantage, but not a huge one.

It's not exactly fair, but it's not a big enough advantage for me to worry too much about.

if it bothers you, you should say something. No sense thinking about it all the time. Hell you made a thread about it. Next time he says that it is easier for him to keep track, I would suggest one of these:

"Well I think it also gives you a slight advantage"

"Well if you cant keep track, I dont mind dealing, or even have everyone deal their own dealer hand"

"Who cares, I just put 40$ in the game"

I hate to deal the cards so it would be worth it for me to let him start with the button everytime if I didn't have to deal.

and yes, he does have an advantage.

seems pretty fair since seating is drawn.
Dealer sees hands last so to speak, so some advantage.
all should insist on draw for button.
Not rocket science remembering who's first.

Sounds like "house" man wants to "control".

For laughs tell him you wanta start blackjack game & deal first. Bet he won't go for it. :toast:

sounds like a shady game all around. with blinds going up every round, i'm assuming it becomes a luck-fest quite quickly. what the dealer is doing is by starting with the button all the time is very retarded. it isn't too big of an advantage, but there's no reason why he shouldn't just draw cards for the button.

bring a stop watch and change the game to twenty minute blinds. Tell them you think they should go to a timed game because it's more like tournament poker in case any of us ever play in a real tournament we will be more prepared to play that style instead of this home version.

As somebody else mentioned, timed rounds are much better. You can buy a poker timer for ~$10-20 or there is free software.

We use the oven timer at the home game where I play--no big deal. I do think that the dealer in this case does have a slight advantage, but I'm willing to give that to him if he's willing to deal every hand.

Saves the pain in the ass of everyone having to deal so that makes up for it a little and if it is going to be that way, you know it going in and can play or not play.

Total luckfest with blinds increasing that fast

Stupid

by the time every hand ends and the dealer shuffles the cards and gets them dealt , i'd say it takes atleast 15 minutes to get all the way around.

so the pace of the blinds when their is 7 or more players left isnt that " stupid " .

i should have said that they dont go up that often when we whittle it down. i dont remember how often , but it wasnt every time around.

we start with 6000 and the blinds start at 100 / 200

Blinds raise way to fast, really stupid. As for an advantage, it's not much of one every gets that same BB once so it's not a big deal.

its a bunch of long time friends. it isnt 10 or 11 random guys every week.

its more of an abuse fest than anything else.

i have suggested this : we buy a shuffler , we have 2 decks , blinds go up every 15 minutes. we draw for the first button.

it has fallen on deaf ears in the past , but it wont anymore.

the idea of this thread was to get opinions of the dealer having an advantage or not , not to abuse the game as a whole.
