I bought a new wireless mouse and ever since then when I type every few words the cursor will jump back a few spaces and make it extremely hard to type with any speed.

Has anyone ever had this problem and can I fix it?

As an example, I'll retype that first paragraph to show you what it looks like:

did it come with a disk?, if so you may need to run the disk to install the proper driver for said pointing device.

No disk. It's a microsoft mouse. Researching it on the internet right now. Someone said FN+F7 to turn off the touchpad.

Let me randomly type something to see if it works, seems like it is better now. That was really annoying, I did google "cursor skipping problem" and think that solved it in case someone else has the same problem.

My laptop has the brightness turn up when I do FN+F7. For those that don't have that option you can turn off your touchpad in the Mouse options in the Control Panel.

Still having minor issues with this from time to time. Think it may have something to do with static buildup.

Does anyone know a safe way to remove static from a laptop, without messing everything up.

doubt that will help ..
I am guessing you are using VISTA ?
anyway ..go into "DEVICE MANAGER" and UPDATE DRIVER
let it go online to find driver and/or install best driver automaticly.

2, device manager and UNINSTALL , reboot computer and let it find NEW HARDWARE AND REINSTALL.

it sounds like a driver compatability issue.

any more info will help ... maybe I can find the correct driver?

We ran into a similar problem with Logitech MX1000 Laser Cordless Mouse

I don't know if this is you problem .. but you may try this.

****************************************

For those with "erratic" mouse behavior ...

I was frustrated with this behavior - changed batteries, moved receiver, nothing. Finally ended up "cleaning" the little hole where the laser sensor is with a dry cloth and voila.

I'm thinking some dirt, fibers, or whatever got caught up in there and causes problems.

This problem is back with a vengeance. It's definitely not the mouse, going to give your first suggestion a try right now.

I don't think it is the mouse, I think it is the keyboard.

I unplug the mouse and same problem happens.

The lazy brown fox jumped over the quick mud cow.

Seems to be working all right ok, hope there are no more problems as I type this sentence. Very good so far.

I have a laser mouse with a retractable cord. I love it. You just tug on the cord and it zips into its case. I don't have to worry about batteries for the mouse or a charger.
