Anyone have health insurance from a non-employer (outside insurance or for those that are self-employed)?

What are you paying for it? Also, are you the only one on the policy, if you have a spouse on the policy, what is the cost?

Thanks,

I used to have to get self employment health insurance before I was married and got on my wife's policy.
It all depends. Some coverage costs 50 a month but have a high ass deductable. Other full coverage could be around 300 a month per person.

I got my policies from from www.ehealthinsurance.com

They will give you like 30 policies with free quotes for you to choose.

My wife and I are both self-employed, so we have to buy health insurance. We have an HSA through Golden Rule. It's basically just catastrophic insurance because it has a deductible for the year for the family (daughter on the policy too) of $5700. So we basically self insure unless something nasty happens. The premium for the insurance is about $370/month, but we put in another $400 a month that is pre-tax also. It goes into a checking account that earns interest and that's what we use to pay for doctor visits, prescriptions, glasses etc.

the ins. company i work for is unlike any others out there right now. we dont sell group policies because we put everyone in 1 big nationwide group. this allows us to give you more affordable premiums (usually 20% cheaper) with the benefits you would recieve if you worked for a huge company. the reason why we are so different is that if you qualify to recieve insurance through us, we give you the guarantee that we can NEVER raise your premiums and we can NEVER drop you. this is huge because if you were to have a heartattack or some shit, your premiums would go through the fucking roof and you may not ever be able to pay them. then, since you have had a heartattack, you are basically uninsurable anywhere else. your fukt. i sleep easy at night knowing that my clients wont have to worry about being insured after they get real sick.

here is the website if you want to check it out... http://healthmarkets.com/ . use the toolbar up top to navigate.

Thanks guys. Really appreciate it. I recently became unemployed and my wife is finishing up school, so we are presently without insurance. We are both in good health in our 30s, but you just never know.

Raydog, thanks for the link. That is my biggest concern is for emergency services, I would cripple us.

It seems like if you don't work for a big company and don't have bcbs you get screwed.

Yea it is. I have to pay $100 just to go to school and I haven't been sick with anything for 4 years or so. Not even a cold or the flu.

Wow you pay more for health insurance than I pay for car insurance on the Integra. Did you shop around or what?

ttp, i know you know all the ins and outs of the business. we sell mega and midwest along with some united am. its not the Mega product that is inferior, its the companies that are pushing it and the way they do business. a shitload of companies sell Mega. you get sick and put in some claims, they raise your premiums. then tell you that its industry standard and push some blame off on Mega. you get sick with my company and your premiums will remain the same.

stinky, we get a ton of our business from former bcbs policy holders. they tend to be a bit cheaper but have a reputation for raising premiums for every little claim or for no reason at all and to be honest, their coverage is loaded with loopholes. ttp or pbr can definately answer just about any question you guys have about the industry. ive only been doin this since the beginning of the year but wouldnt sell insurance for any else but who im with.

Ray I will let you do your thing since you are new I will let you figure it out on your own.

Can you explain to me the plans you sell and the never increase of premiums that go along with that.

Are you saying if I am 30 now that policy will be the same cost at 60

i am saying that you will never be singled out for a rate increase due to anything that happens to you. heartattack, wreck, any kind of transplant, constant illness, aids, cancer..so on and so on. THERE IS NO CLAIM THAT WILL EVER EFFECT YOUR PREMIUM AND WE CANNOT DROP YOU AS A CLIENT. it goes without saying that as long as you have health insurance, your premium will gradually rise due to your age. as you know, we dont have any control over that. that is basically regulated by the industry. but we are well below industry average and thats why we dont lose clients. take 2 people who are of the exact same health, one is 30, the other one is 40. obviously, the one who is 40 is going to have a higher premium. goes without saying that there will always be a small increase due to age. im guessing thats what you were getting at.
