9 man table at the dog track.

we are down to about 125 players out of 300 in a $ 120.00 entry fee event.

blinds are 200 / 400 .

fold
call 400
min raise to 800
fold around to the small blind. he pushes it to 3000
big blind folds.
first caller folds.

you are the guy who raised it to 800 and you have A /Q suited.

you have about 5400 chips left. as does the big raiser.

you have played a few times with the big raiser and know him to be a pretty good player.

what do you do ?

If he's read Harrington on Holdem or is a very experianced player this would be a "squeeze play" where he is pretty sure you will all fold....
so its a judgement, is he making a squeeze play or does he have even 22.if he does he's a small fav.
Your mistake was min raising which tips off the strength of ur hand usually..
i dont know what position 5400 chips puts u in.but if its less than the avg stack its probably a call.............otherwise again its a judgement call.........

Depending on how you play your hands and what kinda jump you think he has on you.

Personally.. in a tourney of that size I would've bet 1200 instead of the 800.. and if it was doubled I would call.. see the flop and try and get a better read..
I'm no pro card player but I'll see you boys at the bash =0)

Calling is not an option.

You either have to fold or push.

I would lean towards folding and waiting for a better place
to get all my chips in.

I think folding is correct here. There aren't too many hands a good player would make this play with that you'll be in good shape against. You'll be in horrible shape or coin flip/slight dog most of the time here.

Im all in. If he is a good player. He looked at your 800 raise as weak. But at the same time why would a good player put over half his chip stack in there. I say go all in and see where the cards lay.

Got a feeling you called....what happened?

the min raiser pushed all in.

i was the pre flop 3000 chip raiser. i had pocket queens.

i called his all in. mostly because i have seen this guy play and i put him on A / J or A /10 .

he had A/Q like i said.

flop comes with crap and the turn was an ACE...

i pushed 3000 knowing he is likely making that min raise with ace / something. i also figured his min raise would make it easy for him to lay it down. not much committed.

i was a 2/1 fav and they go down all the time as we all know.

nice to see the majority here lay it down . i would have.

This is easy....

you have to put him on a hand... at least a pair more likely a pair of 10's or better ...at the least he has AK suited

you fold your hand, but think about for a few ...do the hollywood act and watch his reaction

First the min-raise is pretty bad. Second, super easy call here but a more specific read would be good as there are many types of "good players". Is he a good loose aggressive player or is he just waiting for hands to get paid off at a table of calling stations? Either way, assuming he pushed for 3000 total (including the sb) then the pot size is 400+800+3000+400 = 5000. So 3000-800 means you have to call 2200 into a 5000 pot. 5000/2200 = 2.27 to 1 odds. Even if he shows you KK, you're still correct to call as you're only a 2 to 1 dog getting 2.27 to 1. Against a more reasonable but still very tight range of 99-AA, AJ-AK you have over 40% equity. Folding would def be a mistake.

Can't edit now but apparently I can't do math and after reading your last post I see it was re-raised to 3000 and not an all-in for 3000. How many chips did you have? This is a closer spot and more read-oriented. If you had been playing nitty and not three-betting at all, I would probably lay it down. If you had been stealing a lot of pots and three-betting a bunch, I would probably shove.

so your numbers are correct. he didnt call.

the min raiser who only had 800 invested into a 4800 chip pot pushed all in . approx 5500 more .

then obviously i called with my queens and we were both all in.

i pushed 3000 into a 1800 chip pot to get rid of the big blind and the other pre flop caller. i wanted the min raiser either heads up or to fold.

i got him heads and lost to a 3 outer. it happens.

Fold

Lets just assume he isn't on a dead bluff and a good player wont do that for a min raise. Figure he has 10's or better.

Ther's really only 2 or 3 hands (10'a, J's, Possibly AJ) That you are in good shape with. Best case scenario would be a coin flip with a good chance your domianted.

min raise is usually a better hand than 3 bets. you know he has an ace so call and see the flop, QQ is overrated.
