Good day folks, I am planning a little weekend getaway to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. I would love to visit it during Hall of Fame weekend but we are fairly booked for June/July (weddings, parties etc) so we will probably make the trip next month in May.

It will take about 4 hours to get from where I am to Cooperstown, NY (at least that's what Mapquest tells me anyway)

A few questions for folks who have visited the place

1. How much time should I allocate for the Hall of Fame ? I checked the website and there are quite a few things to do, i would imagine a full Saturday from 10ish to 5 would be good enough ?

2. Any recommendations on accommodation ? We will most likely stay over for Saturday night and drive back home on Sunday.

3. Is there any other activities in the areas besides the Baseball Hall of Fame ? Things like factory outlets for the wife or maybe another museum/landmark/attractions would be ideal.

Thanks

My son and I are going this Thursday for a quick jaunt to see the new Red Sox Championship exhibit.
We try to go once a year.
A full day will get you through all the fanfare stuff. If you are a diehard you could spend more--but a day will do.
There are other small shops/mainly old antique type shops around the area. There are some hotels and it really has built up-but it is not hopping with things to do.
Enjoy your trip!!

1. It really depends how interested you are in the HOF. I am a huge baseball fan and I went there but found it to be a little boring. I spent about 2 hours in there and got a look at everything I wanted to see. I was more interested in some of the sites and sounds around Cooperstown. As excited as I was, I really wasn't incredibly impressed with the HOF. Lots of stuff to see, but it got old quick for me at least.

2. Not sure. We just went up for the day. I remember they have a ton of nice places to stay as well a Holiday Inn, Heritage Inn, Hampton Inn, Best Western, and some other inexpensive hotel chains. You shouldn't have trouble finding a place this time of the year.

3. They have a nice ballpark or two up there. We only say Doubleday Field but Dreams Park might be worth a look. James Fenimore Cooper's house is in town and is kinda cool to check out. Lots of card shops and there will likely be some former major leaguers signing autographs somewhere for a price. We really didn't stay long enough to fully check it out though. Soccer Hall of Fame is close by. There is also a "fun park" for the kids with go carts and all that good stuff.

Hope that helps.

splurge and stay at the ot-te-sa-ga, that is where the HOF"S stay . The farmers museum is in cooperstown, the elementary schools used to take us there every year for a field trip. Also Glimmerglass lake, made famous by fenimore cooper, has a state park.

Me and some friends went down some time ago and had a blast. We walked around the town which is really nice, hit The Hall of Fame for about five hours or so and then went and had dinner and watched The Yankees play in the World Series in some little dive with the locals. I loved it but some find it boring.

It's weird. For someone like me who has played baseball all his life and watches it/bets it intently, I just really didn't think the HOF was that fun to be in.
