This 10-year old story in Rolling Stone magazine gave me a good laugh. I knew he had a gambling problem, but I didn't know it was this bad.

It's nearly 1 A.M. and Norm Macdonald is in NBC Studio 8H, where the Matthew Perry-hosted second show of the season is drawing to a close. Technically, Macdonald should be joining all his colleagues -- Molly Shannon, Cheri Oteri, Ana Gasteyer, Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan, Tim Meadows, Tracy Morgan, Jim Breuer, Darrell Hammond and Colin Quinn -- as well as Perry and musical guests Oasis for the curtain call. But Macdonald -- a true believer in the Church of Not Giving a Fuck, where he worships forefathers like Dean Martin and, yes, Burt Reynolds -- doesn't do curtain calls. Nobody's cheerleader, he prefers to deliver the "fake news" and flee.

Macdonald doesn't generally attend the traditional Saturday Night Live after-party, either. "I never see the point," he explains. "There's all these people you know, and who wants to be with them? Then there's all these people you don't know -- and I don't like them, either." Tonight, though, he's thinking of going. He even appears to be in a good mood. This is not because his "Weekend Update" segment went well -- much better than last week, when he endured the indignity of sharing his desk with Richard Jewell. ("I fuckin' hated him," Macdonald says. "He was creepy. What the hell did he ever do? Not bomb something?") No, Macdonald is feeling "hot" tonight because his bookie is in the audience and Norm is up $15,000.
:lol::lol:

Also, check out his talk-show interviews on Youtube, they're hilarious.

One of my all-time favorite comedians...guy is fucking hilarious. Just another reason to like him, as far as I'm concerned.

Norm is actually responsible for getting Artie Lang on the Stern show...he brought him with him 1 day on the show and Artie told a few of his heroin and gambling stories and Howard invited him back to sit in.....at the time they auditioning different people to replace Jackie........as far as i remember and my memory has proven faulty several times lately, once Artie sat in they never brought in anybody else and he's been there ever since...

Whats going on with Lang anyway? Is he coming back? Stern on vacation yet again......Guy makes $500 million a year, works 4 days a week, has weekends off, takes weeks off for holidays, and several other times a year......what a deal he got with Sirius.

Must of ended up behind with that bookie in order to do this voice over.

He is making $500 million for five years, not one year.

I usually don't mind the vacation weeks, but the Fridays off are very annoying. But he is still on the air twice as much as when he was on FM and he probably making isn't making much more than twice as much.

And the show is so much better. . .

Actually its not even 500 million. it was as i recall 90 million cash pd over 5 yrs the rest was stock options which at this time are right next to worthless..Sirius sells for around 2 bucks a share on a good day..
i kinda think in the last 6 months this has caused some tension between Howard and mgmt, he seems like he's ready to announce his retirement everyday..i believe the pay cut and him not being able to book big name guests is taking its toll on his nerves.

Howard sold his stock options right after he got them when he started at Sirius. If I remember right he sold around 8 and it made his contract actually worth more than $500 mil.
