Or just a space-eater...

Okay...

Piniella just said that Blanco's AB in the 4th inning...with 1st and 2nd and no out and a 3-1 game... was all on his own...

Piniella said that at no point did he put the bunt sign on.

Made some wise assed remark that maybe Blanco was trying to bunt for a hit...:ohno:

Here's the problem with what Piniella just said...

Blanco had attempted to bunt several times in that AB...

It was not...a 2 and 2 count... and then he tried to bunt for the 1st time...so what the hell was Piniella watching?

I guess he was not paying attention...because according to his post-game comments...Piniella would have hollered at Blanco to knock it off and swing the damn bat.

Or maybe he is just trying to cover for a gaffe Quade made with the signs...

Either way...Piniella did a real bad job managing that situation...because Blanco kept trying to bunt until he K'd.

sweet lou. par for the course.

There is no way you just sit there and let a guy bunt that many times without saying something and the pitcher on deck.

and leaving lilly in was not managing genius either, lilly is off to an atrocious start this year.

Baseball is a funny game...you should "know" that...

If the Cubs get it tied at 3 there...the entire game could have taken a different course...because the Reds did not score in the 5th...

It was a key spot...that was severely butchered.

I did not agree with the anti-Lou sentiment after the stunt he pulled in Gm.1 vs Arizona LY...

But this was a disgrace...and if John Baker was still managing this team...and that happened...I guarantee you that someone...Trib or Times... would have asked him what the hell he was doing... during that Blanco AB.

He did it on his own, just like I figured. No way did he call for a bunt in that situation. Blanco was acting on his own. I am sure the 3rd base coach didn't mess up a sign three times in a row. It was Blanco's fault plain and simple

Piniella was asked about that...

He said this...and I quote...

"I was trying to get Lilly a win" ...

Repeated that more than once. Not that he was trying to get the club a win...which would have meant removing him...was all about Lilly and his confidence...to hell with the team.

I would not be surprised if there is something wrong w/Lilly. He is not throwing hard at all...he is getting hammered...and had good numbers against the Reds coming into this one.

I was hoping this was not the case...

Because this scenario made Piniella resemble Bruce Kimm...

And his infamous..."Asleep-at-the-wheel... Baseball Managing 101"

The "talking-heads" may be right about Lou's competency.

Piniella doesn't know any more about baseball than Ron Santo. Just lovable losers.

Fucking Cubs. :lolBIG:

Entire organization is a joke.

It's funny to listen to 10 minutes of a Cubs broadcast on the radio, then switch over to the Sox. Sound like they are broadcasting two entirely different sports.

I would pay top dollar for Steve Stone's picks if he ever went tout. Can't believe he isn't managing somewhere. I guess he just likes being a damn good color commentator.

Illini...

My guess is that Stoney wants Hendry's job.

I think he is waiting on the sale of the Cubs to be completed, and then he will be going after an executive position with the new group.

There are rumors that Stone knows the individuals that are in the running to buy the team, and has already positioned himself with each.

As the season wound down LY...after they won the division, he was on the Score for his regular baseball chat with Boers & Bernstein... and Stone took some shots at Hendry for the ill-advised contracts that he handed out. Odd because it wasn't in tune with Cubby playoff fever.

Speaking of baseball acumen...LaGenius had a heck of a day too. The HOF manager went above and beyond in that 10th inning today...once again proving that he knows how to out-think the situation, and simply knows more about baseball than anyone dead or alive...:aktion033

Stone commentary: "Ed, you would think he'd come inside here with a fastball, but I really think he should throw the slider because........"

Santo commentary: "Oh, man! Dang it! What's he doing?"

Tony, what do you think of John Rooney? I don't like him near as much as most people. Just a little too anal and cheery.

I will always miss Jack Buck. I wish I had some tapes of Cardinal radio games from my youth. He was like a friend that you felt like you knew.

I hated Rooney when he was in Chicago. Pat and Ron are fun though, Santo is a die hard fan in the booth and Hughes is awesome.

First off w/Rooney, I like him better than Hagin.

IMO...they messed everything up after Joel Meyers was there. He did an ok job, and meshed well with Mike. But Hagin was not a good match for Shannon. At least now when you listen to the game...Rooney and Shannon both get involved...when Hagin was there it was awkward as hell. I actually believe the stories... that Shannon would simply leave the booth and go down to the Cardinal Club restaurant until it was his turn again.

No one can ever replace the legend. Not sure if you own this CD...but I strongly recommend it. Pat Hughes did a hell of a job putting this series together...they make great gifts...and IMO, are a must have for any baseball fan. Pat Hughes is a classy announcer...and you can tell that he really loves baseball.
