I started the low carb diet (20-30 carbs per day) on 4/7/08 and lost about a pound a day up until this past Sunday 4/13/08. Since then I haven't lost another pound.

Has anybody experienced this problem while on the low carb diet?

Your body goes through a thing called 'kitosis'...thats where your supposed to eat < 20 g carbs/day for the first two weeks.

If you do this for a longer time...then your body tends to 'stall.' The key is to slowly start adding carbs to your diet to prevent stalls.

Good carbs...like fruits, not pasta, bread, or rice.

Thats my experience.

Also...drink lots of water...VERY key...supposed to be like 10 glasses a day.

Kitosis is basically training your body to burn stored fat rather carbs that come into the body first...thats what i recall from my past reading.

Here is a good site if you are thinking of just cutting all carbs. I did this for about 2 weeks and dropped 10 lbs, then just exercising and eating good carbs I have lost about 60 lbs the last year and a half

Plateau every now and then. Just keep at it. Sometimes, carbs will produce an insulin spike that will stop ketosis. It just takes time to restart the process. Don't be concerned. Throw a little exercise in every now and then to help, though I lost 60 pounds with not a minute of exercise.
