....these days dealing with the Red Sox dominance.

The Red Sox fan almost enjoyed playing second fiddle to the Yankees for nearly 90 years, but it seems that the last 4 years your typical Yankee fan is really, really hurting with the recent success of the Red Sox combined with their teams inability to claim a title.

I see it when I attend Yankees games here in Tampa, the jeolosy for the Red Sox is so obvious.

At this time, the Red Sox are a LOT more likable bunch as a whole to their fans than the Yankees are to theirs...........they love Jeter, Posada, Riveria, but other than a few others, they have a real hard time relating to their team in my opinion.

Yankee fan would love to have a young Youk, Pedroia, Elsbury, or Papellbon. I guess Chamberlain can possibly feel that role in time.

Not my intent to bash the Yankees or their fans with this thread.......just making what appears to be an obvious observation. Would love to hear a Yankees fans reply to this in an unbiased way as possible, which I know is tough to do. I also think Theo is much more respected than Cashman by their teams respective fans.

Would be tough to be a fan of either with those payrolls. Takes the fun out of winning a bit when you are supposed to.

This thread reminds me of the Patriots fan guy that kept us informed of every single detail during the regular season run, but insisted he was not 'rubbing it in'.

As a Red Sox fan, doesn't bother me in the least.

In fact, feel I'm contributing to the team with my thousands in Red Sox licensed material I purchase. :)

exactly, baseball is being ruined.

Buying a championship < Earning it

Drafting and trading for prospects, watching them mature in your farm system, and then reaping the benefits of them in the majors is very rewarding for fans.

Lets not forget that when the last Collective Bargaining Agreement was reached the owners voted 29-1 to accept the contract and revenue sharing rules. The only team that voted against it was NY.

The owners, as a collective, agreed to the current structure. You cant blame teams like NY, Bos, Mets, Tigers, LAA, LAD etc from taking the rules that were agreed upon and using their situations to the gain an advantage. They'd be crazy not to

Being a huge Tiger fan it is not easy complaining nowadays as they are a big market team but with that said I agree wit RF, if you ask most people I know they will all say they hate both of these teams.

I know I have said this to my GF before when watching those two teams that it doesnt seem like a real team on the field but more like you are watching some all-star team where nobody cares about each other. Not saying this is right it is just the impression I get watching these teams play.

I watch every Tigers game, every year and me and my GF say we feel this certain closeness with the team and the guys on it as they seem like good ole guys who care about the team and the city. I always think to myself that being a fan of those two teams and you just dont get that feeling. But you get the feeling that their fans dont care as it is all about winning at all costs.

I feel no different about either team, I hate them equally. Like RF said it is what is so wrong about baseball, my 2nd favorite sport. I know the Tigers are now lumped in with these teams but I do feel they sort of earned there way into the group. Not hard being a fan for either as no matter what happens they will always be good and that takes the fun out of it. I think that is why most hate both teams. Also the fact that they (both teams) think that we as baseball fans really care about their "overhyped" rivalry. I think i speak for most when I say it is old and stale and no one outside of these two towns care.

The guy I cant stand the most on both of these teams is Manny. I think him and Papelbon are why most people cant stand the Red Sox at all. I think if they werent on the team I would probably hate the Yanks a little more. I do think the Sox fans will end up loving Sean Casey, he is a good guy. Just my two cents. I guess this comes with being good, which we all dont dispute.

It was great when the Red Sox aquired a young prospect from the M's by the name of Jason Varitek.

It has also been rewarding watching Youk, Pedroia, Papellbon, Elsbury emerge from the farm system.

Make no mistake about it, the Yanks and Red Sox both have great farm systems.

I agree with that, and think those teams will pay the price dearly at some point in the next 15 years.

I still believe as a fan, you want your team to do it the conventional way, not the "throw all the money at some overpriced free agents and try to lump together a team that can win a championship even though they've never played together before" way.

Would love to hear a Yankees fans reply to this in an unbiased way as possible, which I know is tough to do.

The biggest change i see is that Yankee fans used to be more focused on winning the World Series and now it has become more about beating the Red Sox. Dont get me wrong winning the Series is still the goal, but now beating the Sox seems more important.

Cashman, up until made two years ago, was always looked at as Bug Georges puppet with little control. He's made some decent moves the past couple years and made the Yanks farm system very solid through drafting and trades. He is getting more respect then he did in the past from Yankee fans.

All the guys you listed would look great in pinstripes. I will counter that the Red Sox would be happy to have Cano, Hughes, Joba and Jeter in their line-up.

If I was a Red Sox fan I would be a little disgusted by the Bandwagon fans that showed up in the past couple of years, claiming they were life-long Red Sox fans, wearing new jerseys with the price tags still attached. When you are on top you get a lot of that. Happened in NY in the late 90's and I hated it.

Nobody cares on the Red Sox???

:think2:

You are obviously not watching very closely my friend..........I think the main reason they have two championships in the past four years in the effort and team togetherness this team has displayed.........they give a supreme effort on most occassions to win games.

I also think you are absurd for not liking Manny, but thats another topic all together. :):)

Great response and agree on all accounts...........yes, the bandwagoners are the absolute worst.

I think that some of the teams, Boston and New York off the top of my head, have learned that it cant be all about spending and you have to develop through the farm as well. In the 90's NY brought up Jeter, Posada, Pettite, Rivera, Bernie Williams and these were core guys in their late 90's run.

In the early 2000's they got away from that signing the biggest free agents available....Giambi, Mussina, Sheffield, Clemmens etc and it didnt work. The development of the prospects hurt the farm system.

In the past couple of years they have put a priority on development again. They still are active in the free agent market but they have developed the next core of the franchise in Cano, Joba, Hughes, Kennedy, Cabrerra through their farm system.

The team that looks in trouble are the tigers. They seem to be loading up on high priced free agents and trades. The development of young players are clearly not a priority in Detroit.

And yes, its always better when your team is the underdog, develops their own players and win the whole thing. dont think that is realistic anymore, sorry to say

RSN in EFFECT!!!!!
I took my son down to the Bronx on Weds for the Sox/Yanks Battle. Wanted the little whale to get a glimpse of the House that Ruth built. Even though we lost--it was great to see some O. Bully is a HUGE problem though.
Are we going to do the Classic Fantasy??

Funny I know many in the Chicago area. They are also Cub fans. I don't see the connection at all.
