Thinking about taking the family for a summer a vacation. They want to go to the beach. I don't want to drive too far (we live in Ohio). How is Baltimore for a vacation place? Is it right on the beach? I couldn't tell from the map I saw.
Thank you for any input/comments/suggestions.

Best beach is nowhere in Baltimore. Got to go to Ocean City, MD if you want a real beach.

Baltimore city's beach is the Inner Harbor. lol

Thanks, man. I've never been to that part of the country. I couldn't tell if Balt. was near the beach or not. I saw that Ocean City is about another 1.5 hours, so that's not too bad. Thanks, dude.

OC is about 130 miles or three hours from Balto. If you are driving to the beach on a Friday or Saturday morning, count on 5 hours from Balto. It's great for the kids but it's very over crowded and over priced between mid-May and mid-Sept. But still a good fun trip.

:103631605Harbor is still nice to stop through on a day, eat some crabs and get out of dodge. Once it gets to around 9pm you don't want your family to be out in that enviroment. Its not bad if you out hanging with the guys, but I wouldn't dare have kids out downtown Bmore after 9.

Baltimore would be a nice stopover for the night on your way to Ocean City, MD (not NJ). There is plenty to do at the Inner Harbor for families...Science Center, Aquirium, ESPN Sportszone and countless shops and restaurants. If you go when the O's are playing, it's also walking distance to Camden Yards. I am not an O's fan but if you have never been to stadium the trip is worth it for that reason alone. Ocean City is more like a 2 1/2 hour drive from Baltimore.

Hey, thanks a lot guys! This is better than a travel agent. I know you guys will be honest. Thanks for all the info. I guess I was looking at a site that said Ocean City is a little more than 100 miles from Baltimore. I wasn't planning on it taking 3 hours to get there. This is cool, since we live near Columbus, Ohio
and my kids want to go to the beach, I figured they'd be OK with a 7-8 hour drive, which would be like in the Baltimore area. But now I guess we could tack on a couple more hours to get to a nice beach like Ocean City or maybe somewhere in Va. since it seems like it will be just as far. Thanks a lot, guys.

The couple extra hours is well worth it to get to Ocean City. It can get pretty crowded but it is a major family beach destination around here. Make sure you make it to the boardwalk at some point and have some Thrasher's fries.

Check out Rehoboth Beach in Del. if you don't want to fight the crowds.

All though Ocean City's boardwalk has more for the kids but for just chilling on the beach Rehoboth is less crowded.

Or stay in North Ocean City closer to the Del. border and take the bus downtown to boardwalk at night.

3 hours tops from Balitmore to the beach (Ocean City)...

Not in traffic... Sometime it can take up to 5 hours... Bay Bridge traffic will kill you...

OC is a good family spot... If you want quiet go up the strip to higher numbered streets or go to Rohobeth or Betheny in Deleware...

Ocean City has gone down the shitter in the last couple of years. Bethany Beach, Delaware is where I would take the family. Rehobeth is a nice beach too, lots of gay people though. It is an openly known "gay" beach.

Going north on 95, east on 896, then south on rt 1 and you are there in 3 hours tops, bay bridge is too damn congested these days....I suppose it depends on which side of the city you are on to determine the faster way there

Joebatters will be on vacation he can make the drive on a weekday.

We used to summer in O.C. and my dad would come on weekends and wake up early Monday morning and drive strait to the Pentagon to work.

You'll be able to get some deals on places to stay in OC this year, too many places for rent and with the high mortgages alot of people are knocking down the rates trying to stay afloat.Lived here for 30 years and have never seen such a downturn in prices.

Dewey beach! Best down there

Used to be ,but a bunch of old codgers are trying to change that, they've hired some hardcore friggin cops and if you think you are going to ruddertown, having a few and driving out of there forget it.Dewey, bethany and Fenwick cops are all working together now,it ain't worth the aggravation.

thats due to all the stupid condos going up in town, what a waste. Most of the new ones are almost completely empty. The one they are building on 48th street is a disgrace. I miss the ocean club and gateway already.
