way to help your team, Castillo. Can't even get a bunt down
Nothing pisses me off more than this. So many game couldve been won or tied but guys can no longer drop down a sac bunt. It is so pathetic that these guys are professionals and cant do one of the most fundamental things. in their sport.
Just curious if you have played sports in high school. I'm assuming after this post if you have it was not baseball. I in fact did. Do you realize how hard it is to lay down a good sac bunt with a ball coming in at 75 mph? Ok now lets go to 90 mph. Lets add in the fact your in a slump and have a bad knee. Ok now take in the pressure of doing it in the top of the 9th vs your rival. Alright now how about squaring around to bunt and leaving yourself completley vulnerable to one that gets away from the pitcher.
Not as easy as it looks on TV bud. BTW Castillo gets that bunt down 90% of the time.
Funny. Bunting a ball at 75MPH? My god are you serious? FYI I Played and coached. Bunting is not difficult. Hitting a 90+ MPH fastball is difficult. Bunting one at 75 is not, and then you make an excuse for his failure.....you must just be a Mets fan sticking up for your player. I hope thats the case. If it isnt you have no idea what you are talking about.
HS kids on my teams drop bunts down with a very high rate of success. We practiced it and practiced it and every player knew how to do it and could be called on to do it at any time. If they couldnt execute it when need be, then they were pulled for someone who could.....especially with the game on the line.
Bunting a ball is not easy. I was one of the better players with the bat but many players struggle with it. It's easy to make contact but getting it fair and far enough from the catcher where he can't get the out at 3rd is tough. It's very hard to believe that every single one of your players could lay down a good bunt in this situation against the opposing teams closer.
Not telling you how to coach but I do know unless your coaching at a high priced catholic school that actually recruits players its a good thing to be pulling kids for mistakes. High school kids need to stay in after an error or not getting a bunt down. Your making it sound much easier then it is.
BTW. Castillo still gets it down 90% of the time.
Laying a bunt at 75mph is not hard at all. If your coach stressed any fundamentals and actually made a concerted effort to teach you how to bunt, its extremely easy. Our entire starting lineup could lay one down. While we didnt face Brad Lidge most pitchers were in the mid to upper 80's. I agree with you under one condition, that its not easy if the player doesnt practice bunting. Its not some innate skill that you are born with. However, it does not take great talent to master either.Just curious if you have played sports in high school. I'm assuming after this post if you have it was not baseball. I in fact did. A #2 batter has to be good with the sac bunt. No excuse for not being able to get it down.

I just dont think it is difficult. I dont pull a kid if he cant get a bunt down, I know if the game is on the line and I need a sac though that Im gonna make sure I got a kid up there that could do it.
Agree about castillo.
I think my angst with this comes from watching every Pirate for the last 15 years fail miserably at this with the game on the line.
