way to help your team, Castillo. Can't even get a bunt down

Nothing pisses me off more than this. So many game couldve been won or tied but guys can no longer drop down a sac bunt. It is so pathetic that these guys are professionals and cant do one of the most fundamental things. in their sport.

Just curious if you have played sports in high school. I'm assuming after this post if you have it was not baseball. I in fact did. Do you realize how hard it is to lay down a good sac bunt with a ball coming in at 75 mph? Ok now lets go to 90 mph. Lets add in the fact your in a slump and have a bad knee. Ok now take in the pressure of doing it in the top of the 9th vs your rival. Alright now how about squaring around to bunt and leaving yourself completley vulnerable to one that gets away from the pitcher.

Not as easy as it looks on TV bud. BTW Castillo gets that bunt down 90% of the time.

Funny. Bunting a ball at 75MPH? My god are you serious? FYI I Played and coached. Bunting is not difficult. Hitting a 90+ MPH fastball is difficult. Bunting one at 75 is not, and then you make an excuse for his failure.....you must just be a Mets fan sticking up for your player. I hope thats the case. If it isnt you have no idea what you are talking about.

HS kids on my teams drop bunts down with a very high rate of success. We practiced it and practiced it and every player knew how to do it and could be called on to do it at any time. If they couldnt execute it when need be, then they were pulled for someone who could.....especially with the game on the line.

Bunting a ball is not easy. I was one of the better players with the bat but many players struggle with it. It's easy to make contact but getting it fair and far enough from the catcher where he can't get the out at 3rd is tough. It's very hard to believe that every single one of your players could lay down a good bunt in this situation against the opposing teams closer.

Not telling you how to coach but I do know unless your coaching at a high priced catholic school that actually recruits players its a good thing to be pulling kids for mistakes. High school kids need to stay in after an error or not getting a bunt down. Your making it sound much easier then it is.

BTW. Castillo still gets it down 90% of the time.

I just dont think it is difficult. I dont pull a kid if he cant get a bunt down, I know if the game is on the line and I need a sac though that Im gonna make sure I got a kid up there that could do it.

Agree about castillo.

I think my angst with this comes from watching every Pirate for the last 15 years fail miserably at this with the game on the line.

Laying a bunt at 75mph is not hard at all. If your coach stressed any fundamentals and actually made a concerted effort to teach you how to bunt, its extremely easy. Our entire starting lineup could lay one down. While we didnt face Brad Lidge most pitchers were in the mid to upper 80's. I agree with you under one condition, that its not easy if the player doesnt practice bunting. Its not some innate skill that you are born with. However, it does not take great talent to master either.

And frankly I dont think its out of the question for a fan to be extremely angry at an MLB player for not laying down a bunt. Its their profession and if you dont master fundamentals of your occupation you deserve to be ridiculed. Not everyone in the MLB can hit .300 or drop 30 Hrs but I guarantee they all possess the hand-eye coordination to lay a bunt. If not they probably just dont care enough to practice it.

I think about 5 of the kids in my line up could do it 80% of the time or better.

We practiced it but never actually practiced it. We would lay two down in the cage and thats it. Never instructional though, even frosh year was never reall instructional which was surprising because you don't do much bunting in little league. But then again our coach sucks dick and might be the worst in NJ. It is definitley something we all should be able to do. But, I mean look at pitchers. They practice it a lot and still can't do it. It's not as simple as it looks for some people and there are so many factors to doing it that people don't think about unless they have actually done it.

I understand your probably just venting but I have read so many posts like this from uninformed people who love to bitch and moan I just had to say something you know?

Whatever it's 4/20 lets all be happy.

You usually see a little league mistake in every big league game. Dropped catches, stupid overthrows, dumb baserunning, you know the ones that make you question their paycheck$. It happens.

A #2 batter has to be good with the sac bunt. No excuse for not being able to get it down.

Yea I agree. But, this goes back to Wille Randolph. Why bat Castillo #2? The guy has not hit a lick all year and Church/Pagan have been in the 2 hole for this 5 game win streak that got stopped tonight. Jose is hot, Wright is hot, why put a cold player right in the middle of it?

what a horrific post... bunting is not a hard thing to do, i dont care if the pitch is 75 or 90... the problem is way too many players dont want nor learn to bunt because all they worry about is themselves and their stats... could care less about the team, situations in a game, or anything else for that matter... its all about the stats and as horrible as castillo is u think he would be happy to bunt, it wont make his average go down but the k will as it did...

lol, i watch and unfortunately am a pirate season ticket holder and this team is by far one of the worst coached teams in the history of baseball... it doesnt matter who the manager is... this team is poorly managed/coached all the way from the front office to rookie ball and in between...
