step 12 is vitalGod that abortion thing was terrible. You should see the movie FAST FOOD NATION, entertaining movie that delves into the innerworkings of the FastFood and Beef Industry.
I worked in a poultry processing plant when I was young, its pretty foul how it goes down.
Step One: Adult chickens are pinned up and stuffed into a truck, a "chicken catcher" can carry up to 12 chickens in each hand(no shit)
Step two: Chickens are dumped out of the truck onto a conveyor belt in a black light room, a bunch of guys are in there with shit soaked beards and they grab the sleeping chickens and jam their feet into moving shackles.(Ive seen these guys change a dip without taking their shit covered gloves off).
Step three: the shackled chickens have their heads dragged through water carrying an electrical current, most are dead by time they get to the throat cutting saw.
Step three: chickens are drug through a saw to cut their throats most are dead some barely get knicked by the blades(good thing their is a ninja in a raincoat waiting to slice those who missed the water and/or saw)
Step 4,5,6,7,8, and 9: The shackled chickens take a zigzag course over the "blood troughs" then are dragged through boiling water before heading into the "picker" that relieves them of the majority of their feathers. The rest of the feathers are are singed off by twin Flame Throwers right before they are relieved of their feet and dropped down a shoot into the "Evisceration" area.
Evis:
step 10: Hot steamy chickens drop down to the "Hangers" where they are hung on shackles by the nub on there drumsticks(with their hot tummies full of guts)
Step 11: Chickens are carried into a saw that cuts their bellies and their guts drop out.
Step 12: Guts are seperated from the giblets, this is done manually by a person who hates his job. Giblets to one side of the bar, nastier shit to the other...and the beat goes on.
Step 13: The only guy who hates his job more than the Raincoat Ninja and the Giblet dude is the "lung gun guy" who has a vacuum in hand to suck the lungs out of the chicken, it is not a pretty sound.
Step 14: Chickens are washed by machines and dropped into the "Chiller" which rapidly drops the temperature of the birds by spiralling through three seperate tanks of water, all with varying temperatures.
Step 15: Chilled birds drop out of the chiller onto a conveyor to be hung on yet another set of shackles, the line that these birds run on can actually weigh it using lazors and other impliments of destruction. They are automatically dropped into different tubs and labled and then sent to the cooler.
Step 16 - infinite: Birds are taken out of the cooler, hung on lines again to be cut into your favorite pieces(KFC-Churches), some are marinated(kenny rodgers), and some are dropped on the floor and then picked back up and put in your bucket of Extra Crispy.
Atleast thats how it was 12 years ago, im pretty sure it hasnt changed much.
