when i last hosted a radio show i used to bash baseball daily, in favor of football and hoops...i have been watching this closely this season, and it is the most frustrating sport to watch and to bet. Nom matter how much reseach you do, there are dozens of variables, and many that change DURING the game.

Watch these players, they lounge around, during the game with no sense or urgency, and why should they? There is NO CLOCK, they are going to play again tommorrow, and 100 times more after that, so why care if you strike out or lose the game. The bullpens look like HS kids goofing off in study hall.

baseball players seem to be very pampered and not interested much in winning every game , at least until the play -offs. perhaps if they took these games seriously NOW they wouldnt be OUT of the playoffs in sept.

there is no time limit on these games adding to the "no urgency " effect.

There are so many things you have to predict in these games, beyond the players attitudes and the Hitters. There are so many guys going on and off the DL everyday, ( because who wants to really play all 162 games?) there is the weather, the travel, the field dimension, the sun , the sightlines, who knows whats on the pitchers mind that day, and he doesnt even pitch the whole game, so there are three other guys who are going to pitch and leftys and rightys , and you got to predict whats going on thier heads. The unpires seem to be umpire different in different stadiums.

all in all, about 90% of the games are REALLY a 50-50 prop to pick a winner, and the other 10% are priced so high, its not worth betting. Why take a run line on a home fav, when they may not EVEN bat in the 9th if they are up by 1?

so thank god for the NBA playoffs and I cant wait for football.

baseball is by far the easiest sport to handicap. you just have to look at the right statistics and matchups.

if there is one sport where players are known to give up its basketball. Or NBA rather. Take Denver last night for example. Down by double digits... they don't care about the spread and just stopped playing for the last 2 minutes.

Budda's dead on. The majority of the capping revolves around the starting pitchers. Factor in the # of games and it gives you great opportunity to look for value. When you can go 50% on a season and still make money by playing just the dogs it's the greatest game to bet.

If books had a choice, they wouldn't even have baseball as a bettable sport. They typically take a beating from a majority of us every year and only offer it too keep getting action from their players til football. They(the books) win like hell in football and lose a % of that every baseball season. I've gotten to the point where I'll only bet 30 bets a year in football just to pass time til its time to study baseball. Baseball is the only time of the year when I've been asked to leave a book as well. Easy money capping baseball.

track every game this week, and the starting pitcher with the better stats ON PAPER, does NOT lead to HIS TEAMS winning the WHOLE game more than 50% of the time. ther are too many other intagibles, you would actually have to be spy in the clubhouse to know all the little things that are going on EVERYDAY with these players and the environments

Then there are the hitters who have trouble against =certain pitchers, and just dont even try knowing they wont have to face him the next day, or possibly even later in the game, because these guys dont finish what they start, EVEN when they are losing,

EX: if the NFL's patriots are losing a game , they keep their starters in , and they dont pull the starters until they have a BIG lead,, and less than 5% of the game left. not in the 3rd qtr.

If you want to win in baseball you can just bet Tim Lincecum every start as a dog/small fav.

Football - i LOVE your moniker. I had one of them games when I was a youngin and I can't tell you how many hours of time I wasted at family functions that I had to attend but didn't want to and I was too young to stay alone at home.

In baseball, you make your bet and you know what you want the team to do is what they are trying to do, win. You can say what you want about teams not trying their hardest, but they dont just not show up to play a game in the middle of a home stretch. You have to look at their situation and see if it could be game they take off. But you dont have to worry about a team hitting a free throw with 5 seconds left to pusht he lead to 10 to see if you win your bet or not.

Basketball is the most frustrating for me (bet late in the season). I can go on and on about how chaotic it is compared to slower sports. The game will zigzag across the spread 15 times during a game and make you pull out all your hair only to win because of a missed FT. Foots and bases are more my speed.

Yeah in basketball you could back a team as 10 point dog have them be up 10 at half and it would not be uncommon at all to lose the bet.

if you know what your doing and how to read into stats baseball if by far the best and most statistically relevant out of football, bball, and baseball. the nba just doesnt care enough to play hard for a full game and college bball has too much emotion behind the games to count on. baseball stats apply directly to teh game between pitchin, batting, defense. football you look at off and def lines and other things that are tough to actually measure

I feel the same way as the original poster when it comes to betting on basketball or even football.

I love baseball. If Team A is better than Team B, most likely Team A is going to win.

Football is great to watch and betting is fun. I dont make any money during football season (mostly just push) but it is still fun to bet on.

Basketball is a sport created by the books. I am convinced.

If you want to bet on baseball but are struggling, just back someone on this forum. A guy like Tomorrow's Newspaper is a smart choice.

how is nascar handicapping not part of this discussion??

I have bet 11 races so far for +37.6 units.....and I have not bet anything over 3 units!!! year in and year out I come out ahead...and I have learned to bet nascar and nascar only (with the exception of championship games in all sports)

The problem is that 90% of gamblers just bet to have something on the line for that "rush", each and everyday. Being plus or minus units is just a number....I however, think about how many units I want to be up each June and December....not week to week

If you are gambling to earn money long term, no easier or sane way than to bet Nascar. It is 4 hours on Sat night or Sunday afternoon, and you can apply all the other days to spending time with friends and family!

But as I said earlier....most of you are here to gamble b.c you love the "rush" it gives you each and every day. And that is the reason my friends, that Nascar will never compare to the footballs, baseballs, and basketballs of the world.

Here for profit = NASCAR

Here for the rush = all other sports
