a handful do it...

and very few of those people started out doing it for a living and are still doing it...

most hit a lick early and kept doing it by investing in other things...

dont let people fool you...no one that you know or ever will know makes a living by only betting...no one

one other thing...scalpers and middlers that will chime in and tell you they do...sure...they may make a living but its minimal....and the work they have to put in makes it undesirable

Why is it so hard? I constantly see people that are up 80+ units in one sport one season. If they bet $1000 a unit they would have a nice income just from one sport one season. Obviously they would need to have money saved up first but it doesnt seem that hard for people that can win at that rate.

I wager in the 5-10 range. $5-$10 a game, and I sweat those mofo's out like no other. I don't want to know what $1K a game would do to my heart.

are you kidding me? 1,000 a game is not that much. I'm not rich by any means and I've wagered that much on one game and I know many people that have also.

100,000 saved up is not that much money either. Any type of investment needs working capital.

I think the 1% = 1-unit thing is the biggest bullshit here, even among the respected posters. Think about it, if you play $100 a unit you have a working bankroll of $10,000, really ? I doubt it, alot of cats here still play out of pocket if not they are playing $10-$50 a rattle which would give them a bankroll of $1,000 to $5,000, asssuming the 1% rule. Let's just focus on helping each other win, no matter what your unit is or what percentage it is. Nj

ya most people don't use 1% as their unit of play and thats why 99% of people lose.

$100,000 saved " not that much " different circles, I guess. Still if you have that much money set aside for gambling on sports your not a 1% guy either.

didn't say it did and I agree it's a good guide line. But, still the unwritten rule of 1% as it's understood here is bullshit.

Not everyone uses the 1% rule. I my self dont use that at all. I normally just deposit a lump sum amount of money in my account and on I go. My units are by $100. I can tell you I dont deposit $10,000 to gamble. I start off with $1,000 in my account and it goes from there.

I personally don't think much people can make a living from gambling. It is hard and at times you get in a slump and it hurts when that happens. Thats when money management comes into play or take some breaks.

i have wagered over 1000$ on a wager...and let me tell you, losing it is not fun...especially when you do not have 100,000$ to back it up...playing within your means is the key to winning long term...and let me tell you, if you don't, you WILL end up losing...that said, I do think that you can have a 10,000$ bankroll, play 500$ a unit, get a little lucky, and build up enough and play selectively enough, you can make a small income...that said, all it would take was one bad weekend/streak and you could end up truly broke....

If I were betting big money, I'd pick moneylines. It seems like a lot on here just like to drop $ on a game to make it worth watching. If there are only two day games on you force yourself to pick a side when you know its about a 50-50 crap shot.

I'm curious why tout boy is allowed to post in these forums when the others are not allowed?

Too funny...

If it doesn't mean that much to you that's fine but don't act like if this isn't much money at all. The vast majority of the people in this world will never be able to afford this, many of them can't even afford to gamble at all.

If you were able to pick and choose your spots and stay disciplined it would be possible but still highly unlikely.

If you had no bills and lived in your parents basement, sure go for it.
