the standard is that you get vacation pay as listed in your state. so if the law is that you get 10 paid days in year, then you are guaranteed whatever you've earned of that.

however some companies have nice vacation pay such as 15,21, etc days off. so if u in category i believe its upto the companies policies on how much of that you are going to get. you are going get guaranteed the 10days (prorated of course) and if company is nice they are going to give you prorated out of their stated holidays (ala 4/12 * 21 days instead of 4/12 * 10 days).

you should talk to them about it. There is probably company policy that will tell them exactly how that should be treated.

If you don't say anything, there is a decent chance that they will prepare the paycheck as normal and won't even consider this.....can't hurt to ask.

my last job i had 10 sick days/personal days. i also had vacation left, but i knew layoffs where coming in shortly. instead of taking my vacation i took the 10 sick days, and then when it was layoff time i got paid the 15 days for vacation.

nobody ever pays out sick days. if you knew ur quiting u should've used it up. now it could be risky as they might deducted from your vacation pay.

When I worked for USPS, they didn't pay unused sick time, it builds up throughout your time there, you could retire with thousands of hours of sick time, and lose it, or use it as you get it, and be on their SHIT list. Guess which option I chose ?

It would be nice to have the time there in case you broke your leg or something, and were out for months... but I used mine while there.

i know a distant relative who worked for the federal govt (canada) worked 20years+ without taking a single sick day. it accomulates and he can either get that paid out or retire early by taking his last year off.

they had to change the rule so that people can accrued it like that given that soo many people have done this and now are going to take a whole year off and govt has to replace their positions earlier then they anticipated.

alright i called HR. they said since im still accruing towards vacation pay i wouldnt be able to get paid for my pto.

so i got 3 options basically: 1. no show 2. ask supervisor for off days, im sure he'll say no, 3. call in sick

sick better than no show. I used to be able to call in sick for three days no problem, 4th day they demanded a doctor's note.

My employer has the same policy. I use sick days when I only need a day or two off usually to extend a weekend or a couple days in Vegas during the week. My vacation time is used when I take a week or longer off.

I keep 200 hours sick time on the books in case I really do get seriously hurt/ill. However, when I quit or retire they only pay me 25% of my sick time but 100% of vacation time. Needless to say, I will burn my sick time down to zero as retirement approaches.

When I quit, I was on advanced sick time, had to send them a check ! :103631605

No way I was doing 20 years, or leaving it unused.

Ever company or organization is different. Confer with HR. My place of employment doesn't pay out on unused sick days unless you're retiring but will pay out vacation days regardless.
