It's awfully frustrating just how punchless they are. What's the O/U on how many times this season their starting pitcher will allow 2 runs or less in 7 innings and the Padres lose the game?

and they choked in the 8th....have them in 2 parlays...gotta realize that regardless of how good their pitching is, they cannot score...

On the plus side, they're always worth considering for an Under bet. Especially if you can play a 1st 5 innings Under... before that powder keg of a bullpen comes into play. And especially especially if they're playing in that pitcher's paradise of Petco Park.

Maybe with your "rallie" cap and my "rally" cap combined these sorry sacks of excrement can pull it out in the 9th...I doubt it though, Padres have to have the worst offense in the majors. They are tough to watch.

Tonight:
Chris Young - 7 IP, 10 strikeouts, 2 hits, 1 run allowed... Loss

Last night:
Greg Maddux - 7 IP, 4 hits, 0 runs allowed... No decision

It doesn't get much rougher than that for a team.

You know, most teams that have a good pitching staff and play in a pitcher-friendly ballpark will try and have at least one or two big bats in their lineup (Jack Clark on Whitey Herzog's Cardinals, for example). Or they have a bunch of fast guys on the team to run wild on the base paths (again, like the '80s Cardinals). But the Padres have neither power nor speed at all.

To top it off, I don't know that they can offer up any trade deals sweet enough to bring in a big bat. They can't get rid of Peavy or Young. Kouzmanoff and Gonzalez provide what little offensive threat they currently have, and their middle relief pitchers look extremely suspect. About the best they have to offer as trade bait would be Khalil Green, who does play a very solid shortstop. I don't see other teams offering to swap a big bopper for a streak-hitting middle infielder, though, no matter how good his glove.

Looks like the makings of a long season in America's Finest City.
