anyone out there still think the shaq for marion trade was good for the suns?

my feeling then is the same as it is now...a total disaster.

the suns are no longer the threat that they were with marion.

was thinking about this last night as I was falling asleep...and I agree, total disaster. Of course that is easy to say now, but it's still fun to think about how bad they messed up.

Shaq slows them down, no doubt. I thought it was a great trade for Miami, just to unload the contract. It would help the Suns cause if Stoudemire was interested in playing a wee little bit of defense.

Same here. In playoff basketball at least before they could score a ton
quick and have lots of movement. Now they can do virtually nothing.

Good trade. They knew they couldn't win with what they had. This Suns team knocks out the Lakers if they had met up IMO. They just happened to get the best team in basketball as a draw in the first and can't hang.

As I posted here somewhere's back then, I thought it was a good trade

To begin and end the story, Marion has wanted OUT for some time now. They got as equal as possible.

Let's see if SA wins this whole thing. The Suns may have lost to the eventual Champ.

I'm not sure that Shaq can play in the NBA without a rule change - what Pop has done will now be used by all teams - everyone knows what Hack a Shaq is but not from the angle Pop is employing it - forget that Shaq is going to miss the FT's - if you start fouling him with 6 minutes to go then his teamates never touch the ball on offense and never get any rythem going - Nash brings the ball to over half court - foul Shaq - he makes one of two but Nash nor Amare nor Marion can get going into their games - it's amazing that no coach has used this approach to date.

I give you credit for sticking to your guns, I remember this is pretty much what you said when the trade had first happened.

If they want to get better, it will have to be something more elaborate in the off season. Just look at the numbers though why would you ever make this trade, unless you are desperate. Which I guess the Suns were.

Adding an aging Shaq and subtracting Marion only threw a serious wrench into the dynamic of this club.

SA is simply a better team - but Shaq is a signifcant, if not the sole, reason the Spurs blew the Suns out last night - he cannot defend the pick and roll - hoping that Parker will miss mid range jumpers does not constitute a defensive strategy - with or without Shaq or Marion SA is better - a better TEAM - with 3 super stars opposed to two - better offensively and better defensively with a better coach - the Suns can blame it on Shaq if they want - last year they blamed it on Horry - they need to get some mirrors in their locker room.

but who cares if they could beat la... the spurs are the team they were trying to match up with, and look to have failed miserably. you'd have to say they were much closer last year than right now by the way it's shaping up.
