I need some opinions on how this should be handled. Ok A sports books puts up American Idol current numbers and they put will the winner be male yes -1000 instead of -10000. Probably just a typo.

Well the bettor bets this yes at a the bad number for x amount and then also bets the shiesha chick at like +5000 and the other white chick at plus whatever she was, locking up a profit.

Both bets on the girls were correct numbers and bet on Male-yes was at a way off line. Should all the bets be canceled or void or should the book just void the bad line bet and make the player keep the other two bets? The guy would have probably never made the other two if he couldn't have locked up the free roll.

I'm drunk so i hope this makes sense......and oh by the way I did not bet into the bad line I just heard some guys talking about this scenario.

I'd like to hear some opinions of bettors and folks that work at some books or book themselves.

I'm of the opinion that a book should honour any bet that it accepts, but since the books often aren't willing to accept their error, I think any bettor that tries to capitilise on it is making a mistake, particularly if they use it to set up an arbitrage.

Should all the bets be canceled or void or should the book just void the bad line bet and make the player keep the other two bets? The guy would have probably never made the other two if he couldn't have locked up the free roll.

Doing this at just one book is asking for it. While I think that books should have to live with their mistakes as bettors do, I can understand how they can feel abused in this situation. I don't agree with the book voiding the bet at the incorrect line, but I do agree that the two other bets should not be voided. It doesn't matter of the bettor would not have bet these had the first bet not been made, as these two bets were at the correct line and it's the risk the bettor makes when they bet into a clearly incorrect line.

I imagine the likely outcome would be the first bet (at the incorrect line) is voided while the other two stand.

The bets have to be considered individually, there's no justification for lumping them together. The -1000 is palpable, and will be voided, the other two are active.

If it's an offshore post up of course the other two will stand and your welcome to take your business els where along with your sour grapes don't let the door hit you.

If it's a credit shop it's up to your agent and the shop should suggest to the agent this dubious client of his should be call in's only hence forth.

While I agree those bets are a kick in the balls, it is a double standard to have books cancelling their own mistakes while bettors must live with their mistakes. Again, there's no reason books can't double-check a line before posting it.

There used to be a respected maxim in Bookmaking that "If you cant win then you cant lose" Obviously if these Bets are at different Books then you are in Trouble but all should be voided if at the same. However, since Online betting has flourished Books seem to have altered their rules in their favour, probably because you cannot go into a Shop and rant.
Paddy Power who pretend they are Punter Friendly has a rule that states in the Event of a wrong price being quoted and taken, they reserve the right to void the bet or put it on at the correct odds. Problem here is no E-Mail or confirmation is given before the Game which is a ridiculous position for the Bettor. :drink:

not easy to know what the line should be.

here are current to win odds

david a male -100
david c male -100
jason male 33-1
brooke female 49-1
syesha female 49-1

so what should male be to win? its not like you can pop around and check 5 different places. personally Id have bet male to win -1000 just from knowing the show. That bet should win. I know where its available and it still is. I dont need to bet it because I already have male to win there from a while ago. If you played male to win -1000 you should not have played back with the two loser bets on brooke ( no chance) and syesha ( slim and none)

He could win if one of the girls win, the maxim is solid, but doesn't apply here.

Yes thats correct but you have to remember that the whole reason He has bet the Three is because of the assumed wayward price, if thats with the same Book then there is no way morally they can do what you say, but they do especially in these Days of online with impunity :drink:

If you bet the top four horses, including one with a bad price (say 4/1 instead of 2/1) with a bookie on the racecourse, do you think he'd refund you all 4?

That cant happen as On course betting is finite, mistakes are honored. :drink:

Not true. I have a losing ticket from an on-course bookie at Folkestone last time I was home, and it says on the back that they reserve the right to cancel obvious errors.

Because a scalp was found does not mean bad line, void. This isn't horse racing where a mistake is obvious compared to other bookies lines. I don't know where JonnyB got minus 800 and I don't know where else its offered above minus 1000. I'm not seeing the bad line argument here. THis is a goofball event. Sometimes scalps happen.
