(well the o's have to lose still)

ACE JAMES SHIELDS baffles BOSOX:

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)—James Shields threw a two-hitter for his first career shutout, Evan Longoria homered and the Tampa Bay Rays beat Josh Beckett and the Boston Red Sox 3-0 to complete a three-game sweep.
Tampa Bay has won six straight for its longest winning streak since a six-game run July 28-Aug. 3, 2005. The Rays (14-11) are three games over .500 for the first time since starting the season 3-0 in 2002. It’s also the latest in the season the Rays have ever been three games above .500.
Shields (3-1) struck out seven and walked one. Longoria made it 2-0 with a solo homer off Beckett in the seventh.

Nice job by Tampa. I like seeing them win. Just not against the Sox :(

They definatly have their share of talent.

I remember the game when Steve Trachsel beat Pedro. Pedro really disliked Tampa.

I remember Brian Daubach getting thrown at about 10 times and almost being assaulted by Roberto Hernandez.

Hope the Rays can continue their winning ways. Remember, they travel to Boston next weekend. But it's clear, the Yankees and Red Sox are not head and shoulders above everyone else. If you listen to their fans, it's a different story, but the standings tell the truth.

Boston has the best HOME FIELD advantage bar none IMO going on a couple years now. 20-5 TY, that's sick in BASES.

Boston has the best HOME FIELD advantage bar none IMO going on a couple years now. 20-5 TY, that's sick in BASES.

Possible reasons.......

1. Good defense in CF and RF.......where the OF is spacious at Fenway.

2. Ortiz and Manny having hitting traits built perfectly for Fenway........and the Red Sox have many hitters that draw bases on balls, which will kill opposing pitchers in this park.

3. Believe the fans(admittedly rude), definetly give them an edge at home............how many consecutive sellouts are they working on?

Masterson Vs Shields

looks like Boston will be about +135.

Shields numbers vs Boston are subpar. only thing that worries me is the Red Sox are mediocre away from home. But Im going Boston if its that high.

Sox hit Shields pretty good .282 (33-117) take Papi's 7-14 out of the equation that number comes down to 26-103 or about .257.

Masterson faced the Rays once, 6/3, going 6 innings, giving up 6 hits, Pena hurt him with a 3 run bomb, but still got the win.

Game is pretty much even up, I'm with Smith, if I can get +130 or better on an even up game, I'll take it.

Shields ERA is like 5.8 vs Boston career. He's good though, no doubt of that.

Masterson is holding opponents to a .196 batting average. I guess what 50/50 crowd? lots of Bawston fans in the seats.

Papelbon will bring fire if he gets in. Remember, he taunted the Rays with the "its not over" about the brawl. This is the kind of game where he's extra pumped. If he gets in with a lead, really doubt he gives it up tomorrow.

Its gonna be a spirited game.

for those in the Tampa area, place your bets and I think a trip to the ballpark is in order tomorrow. Looks like a good one on tap.
