I am a very generous tipper and always tip everyone that goes that extra mile for me. Didn't give it much thought until the two guys left. They were here for about three hours and did an outstanding job. Trimmed and mulched the landscaping , replaced a few shrubs and cleaned up rather nicely. When they pulled away my wife asked me if I tipped them and I said no. Usually they do it while I'm at work and I never see the guys that the company sends. My wife called me a cheap SOB and now I feel like I should drop a tip off for these two guys or just forget it and just pay the bill. What do you guys think???

I am here reading this thread. Where is my tip?

If the wife is so worried about tip, she can tip them.

Don't they get paid to do the job? Why do they need a tip? Pay them their money for the service and be on your way. I tip the following:

1) Barber (So they don't jack up my haircut).
2) Waitress (Easy, they don't get paid much and do a good job).
3) Bartender (I want a beer and I want it fast so I tip them well).
4) Baggage dude at the airport and hotel (that's a tough ass job).
5) When movers move my stuff from my house I buy them lunch (I don't want my shit lost or stolen and if you feed them they like you).

I also pay for the person behind me in line at the toll booth. It's just something nice to do for someone.

I am in the green proffesion p/t and can tell you that tipping is very rare (I've never got one), nor is it expected by any landscaper I know.

Harrington:

I have a gardening service as well with two guys coming every Friday and once a year they cut down all the weeds on my hillside for fire protection for which they are paid extra as a separate job. Also, if there is other work, like fencing, which is not general maintenance, they are paid separate for that work. The maintenance is $150/month and the other jobs paid separately. I only tip them on special occasions like Easter, Christmas and New Years. A tip is not appropriate for every visit. That's what you pay for regularly.

They probably make about $10 an hour. A tip or a twelve pack on a Friday is greatly appreciated.

$10 per hour isnt considered pretty good pay anymore?

not really, I'm sure it's good in CR. In my state, and most of the US... $10/hour taxed won't get you far :

$400 a week, don't plan on having a car... maybe a place to live with 3 roommates, and a bicycle.
