SmartyJones? When he won the derby by like 15 lengths or whatever it was.

Sort of but Smarty Jones won by almost three lenghts less then Big Brown did today .. Smarty won that race by 2 and 3/4 lenghts not 15.. I also remember Smarty Jones ran the 1 and a quarter in 204. Big Brown ran it in 201 and 4 today.

There is always hype when a horse wins the Derby but Big Brown is not only undefeated but untested

Not a bad race from the "20" post...where are all the non-believers?? Bottom line...the trainer knew best when selecting post positions....

You're comparing Funny Cide and War Emblem who were both huge longshots???

Charismatic 40-1 longshot??

Not even close to compare those situations.

The 20th position was the best possible post for this horse..He had a clean break with nobody on the right side to worry about..He did just what i thought..He had more speed than the 5 horses inside of him and was able to settle in good position just a few lengths off the lead on the first turn..I think this horse stands a better chance to win the triple crown than any horse in many years..Mainly because he's facing some extra weak competetion this year compared to years past..Most of the horses in this field couldn't even make it to a 100 on their Beyers.. I think the only horse with a chance to beat Big Brown will have to be one that didn't run in the derby, because none of those horses today are going to beat him at any distance unless he breaks down from the grueling punishment of running 3 races in 5 weeks..

this 3 year old crop is weak, but big brown is a monster. breaking from the 20 and just cruising 5 wide the whole way, then taking over down the stretch. barring injury, can't see anyone beating this colt.

If you took the second place filly out of race it looked like Brown had at least 6 or 7 lengths on everybody else..And that was without any serious urging, and coming from the 20th post...I agree, he's a monster. I've seen horses with better Beyers numbers leading up to the derby..But you have to consider he acheieved 106 twice with just 3 races under his belt..He's only going to get better...And faster.

What are these "quarter cracks" that Big Brown has? I'm not familiar with that term.

I am a believer now.

No the 20 post was not the best position for him.

Geez if they had a choice it would not have been the 20 spot.

The cracks have healed. A quarter crack is in the wood like hoof. Almost like a splinter to the horse. The quarter crack is a hairline fracture of the hoof. Very, very minor. But could put a horse on the sideline for a year if not treated.

this horse is a freak, 4w trip and to draw off with ease at a 1.25 miles, nearly unbelievable.
The 20 post was only adequate because they knew they had the best horse and felt the only way they lose if he gets interfered with. For a normal animal that post and strategy would be fatal.
