I've heard that at most, one horse from the derby(besides the obvious) is going to enter the Preakness.

True?

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The flight to Baltimore may be a lonely one for Big Brown in the wake of his dominating victory in Saturday’s Kentucky Derby.

As of Sunday morning, it appeared Big Brown would be the only member of the Derby field heading to Pimlico for the Preakness on May 17. Among the connections of horses who finished behind Big Brown in the Derby, only trainer Louie Roussel left the door open, saying he was leaning against bringing Recapturetheglory to the Preakness but that he wouldn’t make a decision until Monday.

Recapturetheglory finished fifth, nearly a dozen lengths behind Big Brown, after challenging for the lead around the second turn in the Derby.

The connections of the remainder of the Derby field indicated they would either give their horses some time off or await the Belmont in five weeks for another potential meeting with Big Brown.

Big Brown looked a picture of health as he walked the shedrow in Barn 22 at Churchill Downs on Sunday morning. Trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. said the undefeated and as yet still untested Big Brown came out of his 4 3/4-ength victory over the ill-fated filly, Eight Belles, in good order and that he would remain at Churchill Downs until May 14 before shipping to Maryland.

Among the 3-year-olds expected to be waiting for the Derby winner in the Preakness are Kentucky Bear and El Gato Malo, both of whom were excluded from the Derby lineup due to insufficient graded earnings.

Trainer Larry Jones was at his barn at Churchill Downs and addressed a handful of reporters about the tragedy that claimed the life of the filly Eight Belles moments after she crossed the finish line second in the Derby. Jones, who trained Eight Belles, reiterated his comments of the night before that he did not believe the racing surface was in any way responsible for her injury -- she broke her front ankles while galloping out -- and said he felt sorry for the connections of the Derby winner considering that much of the attention that would normally have been focused on them was shifted to Eight Belles and Jones immediately after the race.

Creates a negative pool for the track and this will be a huge pool, could be a record negative.

Providing he runs in the money?

Chalky McChalk.

This horse may not have any value for the rest of his career.

He may win every one, but he will be unbettable.

Of course let me add a caveat that the Derby was one of the more impressive performances I've seen by a horse in years.

if he does win the triple crown and they decide to run him in the classic, the hype for a matchup between him and curlin would be great for horse racing.

good pt badco...if the field is really small like 6 or 7 horses it could potentially be a huge - show pool on BB bc in all honesty the only way the horse doesnt run ITM is if he broke down, or threw the jock etc....

i see -230 off shore

but of course if he does not show up for some freak reason that is a loss, as its a prop.

if he starts 100% for sure then day of the race he will go off at 1-5 with some shot at 1-9

There won't be many at either the Preakness or Belmont to face Big Brown. Just enough will run for the purse money. Very much reminds me of 1973 when Secretariat won the Derby except Sham was legitimate and challenged him in all three races. Here there are no legitimate challengers. Agree with TTT. He will be no higher then 1/5 and could be as low as 1/9. Yesterday's price was a steal.

If he wins the triple crown they'll probably just retire him.. As disappointing as that sounds expect it. I'd love to see Curlin and Big Brown battle in the Classic. I'll be there live too considering its at Santa Anita.

I'm guessing Big Brown will likely be 1/5 in the preakness.

The Preakness Stakes will be lucky to have 6 horses in that race

The Preakness and Pimlico have been a total joke for years now, they need to move that 2nd race somewhere like Arlington, thats a GEM of a race track

Pimlico is a hideous track. I went there with my dad years ago and we were like "WTF, they have the Preakness here?" More about tradition than anything else.
It's not even near the nicest track in Maryland. You would truly be amazed if you went there.
