I have no idea what has been discussed on here so I apologize if this is repetitive.

Stricter drug testing in baseball has gotten all of these ol' veterans struggling a bit to get jacked up for games. The game of baseball is turning into a young man's sport. The team with the athletes, the young talent is winning across the board when you look at the Marlins, DRays, DBacks, etc.

Overall, as a general observation and absolutely no proof of this, it seems like scoring is down, too. ESPECIALLY on getaway day with all of these guys laying off the Greenies now and partying the night before since it is early in the year and they are back out on the road.

If I was betting baseball, I'd find a lot more value in the younger teams, and fade the veteran clubs. I'd be playing unders, especially on get-away-days.

Any other observations out there?

I agree. Steriods helped the most with recovery time. As you get older, it takes the body longer to heal. The vets are feeling it. Wilheim had a stat earlier that Ortiz has the 3rd highest batting average at dh this year at a whopping .215. DH is a vet heavy position. I also credit a bit to the cold weather and think as it warms up some of the vets will too. But overall, I do agree, it is becoming more of a young mans game.

I would say that the DH guys are mostly sluggers. The hitters that benefited the most from steroids werent the contact hitters but the sluggers. IMO, at least.

i would rather have a 36 year old chipper jones or a john smoltz or a derek jeter and you can keep the felix hernandezes and lirianos and all these young dudes .you really have to be good to last in this league that long.

I think chipper is 36 and leads the league in hitting percentage at .425, 3rd in home runs and 5th in rbis.

believe it or not there are some odd stats i've heard on talk radio that would completely contradict the theory that cold weather has any influence on whether or not someone is doing good. They looked at lifetime average monthy Batting averages and could detect no difference in most sluggers. It is somewhat of a myth.
