minor increase, only 1 cent, but you might want to get some 1 cent stamps, or buy forever ones.

The one centers might be in short supply ! I'm surprised the increase is this small, next one will probably be to more like 50 cents.

It takes a long time to get approval to raise rates, this one doesn't really reflect fuel costs. USPS uses tons of fuel, most of it by contractors that truck mail. Their contractors will bid much higher when contracts come up for renewal.

Expect a large increase in about a year.

A penny increase means the Joebatters and I get a raise

This may be a dumb question but what is the best way to go about getting a job with the postal service? Are these places that offer to send you the test for a 100 a scam or what? Thanks.

scam

you should contact USPS, and find out when they will offer the battery exam in your area, buy a book about it, and study.

helps if you are a veteran

apply before Christmas for a temp job, that helps too.

You can still buy the Liberty stamps for 42 cents before the increase and they are good forever.

I wouldn't work for the post office if I was you. It may depend on the city but here locally no way. My dad retired from the post office after working there for over 40 years. Keep in mind that the post office stopped giving pensions in the 80's I believe. You will pay ssn taxes now. You would think after 40 plus years the pension would be ok but with the cost of medical insurance he still finds it tough to get by.

Save your c note and buy a postal test book.

Call the district office for your area and ask when the next test will be give.

However i must warn you this post office is not the same animal I started working for in 1986. The new PO will run you into the ground and beat you into submission. They want your blood. I am sure Joe batters and I could tell you stories that would scare the piss out of you as to how this place changed over the past two decades. It is only going to get worse and NEVER better. Thank goodness I am out in about 10 years (got 22 in) if my knee holds up. Hurt my knee a month ago and the only thing they were concerned about is if I was going to file a comp claim. Fuck the knee are you claiming it as an OJI. That sums up the new PO. Trust me Go to Fed Ex

I have had reoccuring knee problems for about 3 years now. I have spoken to the Postmaster about switching crafts (to a mailhandler). All I have gotten is 10 pounds of bullshit in a 5 pound bag. "We have you in mind" "Wewill let you know" "District is holding up the creating of a new slot" I am sure you have heard it all like I have. I do not know if my knee can survive 10 more years of snow, cold, stairs etc. They DO NOT care. They sure as hell will bitch at you if you take 15 minutes unauthorized OT . This place blows big time

I never had a problem with unauthorized O/T, more the opposite. I wanted out after 8 hours, and too much mandatory O/T. I really hated the backstabbers/assholes I worked with.

The best job there is custodian, who cares if it's level 3 ?

Mailhandler can be pretty grunt work, pushing around BMC's,pallets, postcons, unloading trailers, etc., mostly graveyard shift.

A veteran carrier should be able to slot into window clerk, or general clerk, which is much less physical than mailhandler.

That was kinda what I was trying to say in my earlier post. My father started working for the post office in 1965. He would always complain about how the post office turned to shit in the last 20 years or so.

There was no ups and fedex back then or at least not to the extent that they are operating at now which put the squeeze on usps.

Thus the coined phrase "going postal".

I started in late 90's.... there were plenty of people that had jobs doing nothing.... mostly old clerks and custodians.

Carriers work hard, but at least a day job. Some carriers have it easy (Rural routes), but not most.

Way to many supervisors and levels of management.
