Is this guy the best shortstop in the game? I'm not saying he necessarily is so please don't come in here bashing if you don't think he is. I just wanna get some opinions on this. This guy is never on tv because he plays for the marlins but has been a great player for three years now. As of right now the guy is on pace for 40 homers and 50 stolen bases, and it's not a fluke... Also how long until the marlins trade him? That's what they do with every great player they have.

He is a damn stud. As a Sox fan, even with the results Beckett has brought to the table, I have a hard time trying to forget what it would have been like to have him at SS for the next 10 years.

An amazing multi-tooled player with drive and tons of talent. As for when Florida will trade him, I'm guessing one year before he becomes eligible to be a free agent. No way in hell they will be able to afford him.

Sine you are a sox fan, who would you rather have right now? Beckett or Hanley?? Not asking if you would do the trade over again, because of course you won the world series. I am talking from this season on.

Not sure that i would want anyone else before this guy on my team from now on, but as of him being the best by far and him being the best shortstop last year... I'm not so sure, Jimmy Rollins was and still is pretty damn good, MVP.

I think Josh has another three to four years of Cy Young caliber ball in him, so I would have to take him because as he has already shown he is capable of turning a series around on his own, not many position players have the ability to make that much of an impact on their own on a consistent basis in the post season.

I also think Beckett just hit the start of his peak so his upside is a bit tough to understand at this point. Hate to draw back to the past because you asked not to, but I wouldn't be the least bit shocked if he holds together the Red Sox when they need him the most in a post season experience, and ultimately ends in a world series trophy again in the next few years.

Not to mention the price tag that comes with Beckett for Boston is without question one of the best bargains in baseball, 10 mill this year and next (I believe) and then a club option for 12 mill in 2010.

Tough question though because Hanley would have been a franchise player for years, but I cant think of a pitcher who I'd rather have on the mound in the playoffs than Beckett.

Agreed, Josh is definately one of the best in the game and comes thru in pressure situations. But Hanley is only 24 and hasnt even hit his prime yet. The Sox lineup is getting older and could use him, especially with Manny's contract situation. Either way, you're in good hands.

With Manny potentially leaving we could easily use some power in the coming years, and I agree...Sox getting older. That said, if Drew can hit the way he is supposed to, and Manny can give 3\4 of what Manny usually gives for the next few years, the Sox should be in position to be one of the better hitting teams in the MLB.

Hanley is amazing though, so hard to say which you would rather have.
