have a 25-page paper due in 20 hours, but I'm SO excited about tonight that I decided to do this.

Archie hit it out of the ballpark tonight - TWICE - and the entertainment media - who number among the most cynical among us - had great things to say.

If you find more articles, please post them up with the link - I'll make sure to add them to this original post!!

Rascal's Review from NOTINGDAVID.ORG

His performances have almost always been, song choice notwithstanding, at the very top of the heap. But after last night, one can’t help but see that in retrospect, there was something missing. . . I believe David Archuleta has finally decided to be David Archuleta.

Archuleta showed once again he had a knack for picking great songs -- "Stand By Me" and "Love Me Tender" and for adding his own style of soul to make such classics his own.

Archuleta, on the other hand, continued to show he's the contestant to beat. While his "Stand by Me" -- which wisely mixed in elements of Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" -- was only so-so, his warm and rich "Love Me Tender" was a grand slam, and represented his best, most pure performance in weeks.

Over on Rickey.org, EACH of David's songs won as "best performance of the night" (one vote per person)

David Cook - Baba O'Riley 23% (852 votes)
David Cook - Hungry Like The Wolf 3% (103 votes)
David Archuleta - Stand By Me 29% (1067 votes)
David Archuleta - Love Me Tender 24% (867 votes)

Jason Castro - I Shot The Sheriff 6% (218 votes)
Jason Castro - Mr. Tambourine Man 4% (158 votes)
Syesha Mercado - Proud Mary 4% (150 votes)
Syesha Mercado - A Change is Gonna Come 7% (272 votes)

David Archuleta is just to good to be true. He has been criticized for being a robot, or not having much stage presence but how can you fault this kid? He doesn't come with dreadlocks, nor a rocker attitude, he is just there being a 17 year old kid singing better than anyone else on American Idol.

When you hear David Archuleta in person, it is hard not to admit: He is so undeniably talented—with a voice so flawless and dynamic and pure, it actually resonates in your soul—that he probably most deserves to be the winner of this year's American Idol. (It would explain why he got the only full-audience standing O's of the night—and two of them, at that! He is that good.)

POLL: Who was the best tonight?
49.1% David Archuleta
16.8% Jason Castro
24.7% David Cook
9.4% Syesha Mercado

"Lil David" had the best night by a mile or as Simon said "he crushed the competition." His version of ''Stand by Me'' by Ben E. King was excellent because he truly made it his own and connected with the audience by opening his eyes, as Paula pointed out. His vocals were also outstanding.

AND BEGRUDGING PRAISE FROM PEOPLE WHO USUALLY DON'T LIKE ARCHIE...

And yet while I'm not sure I can say the same for David Archuleta, who I still find as exciting as a bowl of Grape-Nuts (no milk, fruit or sugar added), I'd be lying if I didn't call the season 7 wonder teen the star of tonight's show. Randy has been all too often wrong this season, but he was completely correct that Little David is clearly ''trying to win the whole thing'' every time he takes the stage. And on technical merit alone, no one else on stage tonight could match his one-two punch of ''Stand by Me'' and ''Love Me Tender.'' The former performance featured more runs than a high-school track meet, but the bare-bones arrangement showcased a purity of tone that would match nicely with a high-quality poster print of the roof of the Sistine Chapel. (I will also admit to coveting the kid's black V-neck with seagulls and black pinstripe pants.)

The feeling I got watching tonight's episode, despite still being a hater, was that Archie pulled away from the competition. . . For what this competition is, for who the voters are, Archuleta was the best performer of the night, as much as it pains me to say it.

POLL: Who was the best tonight?

Jason Castro - 9%
Syesha Mercado - 13%

I think this performance of "Love Me Tender" is the best thing I've seen David Archuleta do this season. It's the most genuine performance I've from him. I finally felt as though he was really connected with the song rather than just singing it.

David Archuleta, on the other hand, all but established his spot in the finals. With Jason leaving the door wide open for him, Archie couldn't help but impress even non-fans (me) with his perfect vocals on "Stand By Me."

Amidst the snark: "He had a bit of an “Imagine” moment when he sang the hell out of “Love Me Tender.”

"Love Me Tender"
I haven't been a big Archuleta fan thus far, but after this song, I think I get it. He sang it well, distinguished it enough from Elvis' version to avoid copycat accusations, and practically sexually assaulted the cameraman his performance was so impassioned.
