in seven starts so this year has yet to allow more than 1 ER in any of them so far

5-1 1.06 ERA 42 K's in 35 Innings

I knew he was a good prospect but is he this fucken good?

This kid, Cuoto and Harang

Quiet a future for the Reds, the GM got royally screwed with his firing, guy has done the best deals in the last few years with a limited budget

Those 3 are solid as I have been saying, although lets not give the credit to Krivsky, I believe the only one he played a part in was Volquez. I think Cueto and Harang were Dan O'Brian guys. Granted, lots of teams came looking to get cueto from the Reds and Krivsky turned them down, so I guess thats worth something.

Now if the dude could just get out of the Reds' uniform he's got on his back, he'd have it made.

I remember the good old days when Volquez was a Texas Ranger. Thank god we traded him and John Danks. It would suck so bad if we had two good young pitchers on our ball club.

Glad you brought up the Texas angle

though Josh Hamilton is doing great things in Texas and looks like a perennial 40 HR 120 RBI guy

Still a tough trade as hitting is usually available in the offseason while pitching is not

in this era of MLB i rather an all star pitcher too a hitter

especially in that ballpark... much easier to convince a good hitter to come their as opposed to a starting pitcher, john daniels has been horrendus as the gm and i have no idea how he's still on the payroll.

Royboy i swear to god that if i was the GM of a major league ballclub i would manage the cap and roster better than some of these guys

Daniels was hired because of Theo and the young GM sexiness

he has done an awful job and should be going back to high school to graduate now

It's only a matter of time until that ERA raises. His WHIP indicates he should have an ERA of about 3.6 or so. He is getting extremely lucky and he should get rocked or give up some runs before too long. Still, he's been very impressive. I liked Cueto more and Doberman liked Volquez and so far GD is winning the argument.

Gets a lot of strikeouts though so the ball isn't getting put into play a ton for more variance to come into play. obv 1 era is going to be a bit lucky, but I think his stuff is better than 3.6 with avg luck. Also I think his walks will come down somewhat in the future. Cueto's stuff is better I still think, he is just nasty when he doesn't get the ball up. Volquez has trouble with the strike zone and gets his pitch count up early, both of them are strikeout pitchers so pitch count gets up there.

He has the Perfect manager to ruin him too!

I'm still trying to get the strait story here, many cubs fans blame Dusty 100% for ruining Wood/Prior. I hear from other people that Wood had an awful delivery and his arm was never going to hold up, I also hear Prior had a super delivery but he took a freak shot in the arm off a batted ball that hurt him pretty bad. I have also seen Prior's pitch counts and seen that he was throwing over 110 routinely. Where is the gm/owner/pitching coach on some of those things, don't gms give managers strict pitch counts on young pitchers. Cueto went 118 today and had 94 after the 6th and went back into the 7th with a huge lead, that was the first sign of "Dusty" with these pitchers so some reds' fans are concerned.

so what is the strait story on the wood/prior deal?

As far as the trade goes, a local beat writer nailed it, he said by the all star break Reds fans would be wondering how in the heck we could get rid of Hamilton, he's a stud. In the same breath they would wonder where in the world we got this stud Volquez from.

Usually in trades you have to give something to get and OF's are certainly a dime a dozen when compared to #1 starters

Wood's delivery was terrible--i even think he threw a screwball here and there--but make no mistake, Dusty Baker is a terrible fucking manager. Absolutely terrible

Jake, please give me some credit...and one bad outing doesn't mean you will give up on him...I've been riding Volquez since he was with the Rangers....:toast:

Volquez continues to be strong:
7-12-08:
MILWAUKEE (AP)—Edinson Volquez struck out 10 in seven sharp innings for his 12th win, and Adam Dunn homered twice to lead the Cincinnati Reds past the Milwaukee Brewers 8-2 on Saturday.

Volquez (12-3), Cincinnati’s lone All-Star, lowered his NL-leading ERA to 2.29. He gave up six hits and two runs, one earned. The right-hander walked two in his fourth double-digit strikeout game this season.
