Nothing, they haven't been able to hit for a couple of years. Insteading of losing 2-1, they were winning those games.

I could write a book on what's wrong with the Padres, but it starts with boob John Moores as the owner who cares only about the $$$ and then math geeks who are running the team instead of baseball people. They refuse to spend on a free agent in his prime rather than guys 10 yrs past it like Edmonds, Piazza, Maddux, etc... using as a company line that they want to build from within. But the Padres haven't developed a bona fide MLB position player from within since Derek Lee (unless you count Khalil Greene) . Their ddrafts have been horrific with Ben Davis and Mtt Bush among the biggest flops. As bad as they are, it is going to get worse before it gets better.

they sent edmonds packing yesterday. Oakland A's compete on a small payroll why? because they are smart enough to draft So Cal college playe rs. They stole Suzuki in 3rd round, Kotsay, remember Giambi out of Long Beach st?

How does Daric Barton out of Huntington Beach (MArina hs) last 28 picks? I would have taken him top 10, he now bats 2nd for the A's, behind leadoff hitter Suzuki. I use to play tennis with A's scouting director Dick Bogart (rip)

Problem is they have the bad math people. Their minor league system is horrible. What position player would want to play in SD with that park, especially if SD don't want to pay?

Giambi is a fraud who cost Frank Thomas an MVP.

Their pitching is as bad as their hitting when taking into account they are pitching half their games in Petco.

webb is the best in the game right now

It's easy looking good in April .... When Webb wins a big time game that matters let me know....

I guess his 8-0 start are making people forget the bombardment he gave up in the game 1 loss of last years NLCS.

i posted this in another thread. but i feel it's appropriate here too.

the prob w/the padres this yr, is before their batting practice show a couple of hrs before each game on the radio, they play 'it's a beautiful day for a ballgame'. same lyrics, same arrangement & recording that the dodgers have played for at least the last 40 yrs on their broadcasts. this is the first yr the padres have used it on their broadcasts, that i know of. very bush league by the padres. jinxed the padres prob until they eliminate this practice. 'it's a beautiful day for a ballgame, for a ballgame today, the fans are out to get a ticket or two, from walla walla, washington to kalamazoo.'

* jason bay for brian giles was a pretty big mistake they haven't fully recovered from yet.

* building a pitcher's ballpark seemed like a stroke of genius with the rotation they had in mind. however... the padre batters hate the park. Sure the other team has to bat there too, but the padre hitter's believe that the park hurts thier overall career stats and hence, their potential market value to other teams for future free agency. they aren't completely selfish in those ways, they are also just flat out frustrated having their home field so tough to play in. so you've got a team full of disgruntled batters.

* not spending money on younger free agents. we are forever bringing in guys who are well past their peak.

Gary matthews Jr would've been the perfect CF to patrol spacious Petco. We let him go like he was gar-bage

Headley should be playing at 3b. Better then Kouzmanoff. Should have resigned Milton Bradley too. Good player as long as he can stay off the DL. Regardless, pitching is as much a problem as their hitting. Sorry Friar fans, long year.
