How much does it cost to operate a typical car considering all costs ? Beyond just gas... include maintenance, insurance, depreciation, etc.

To put it another way:

All you have to do is show up somewhere to pick up a $100 bill, how far would drive for it ?

Let's add a few conditions:

no tolls or such

Your expected average speed is 30 MPH.

Drive anything at all, only need to move your body

so you wouldn't drive 15 miles each way ( one hour) for $100 cash, and maybe 1-2 gallons of gas ?

I'd do that !

That's like a job that pays $12.50/ hour, and you don't have to work your shift.

Doug..do not do it...im tellin u to stay home...

Personally, I think you'd be crazy to not be willing to spend an hour, and drive 30 miles ( roundtrip) for $100.

I think most here would do that easily.

You drive 30 miles, each way ?? To do what ? I still don't get it ??
Also sounds like Less then 2 hours of driving, so I guess you could say it pays $50 an hour, Unless I'm missing something :think2:

I'd drive the 30 miles each way for it ( even in a 15mpg truck).

It would take 2 hours , use 4 gallons of gas at $4 a gallon, for $16 in gas.

Even inflate the per mile charge to a very high $1 a mile (IMO) and I'd get $20/hour for basically very easy stuff ( just driving). That is doable, but not too much past 30 miles one way, unless a more efficient vehicle.

but the question is...could you be doing something else to either make more or doing something to better yourself so you would be worth more in the future

It's a theoretical question:

You are offered $100 to show up somewhere, how far would you go for it ?

I put a condition of 30 mph to put some context to it.

Let's say this comes up once a day ( theoretical), you have to go when offered... it's on your day off , or at times that don't conflict with your 9-5 job. For example 7pm-midnite for a dayshift worker.

It may or may not bring you near someplace you needed to go, so you might also possibly kill a needed errand on the way.
