From Peavy and Cook to Maddux and Jimenez...what a change.

Peavy had an unusually high WHIP yesterday (almost twice as high as he usually has at home) and Colorado will have a much easier task tonight with struggling Maddux who's allowing quite a few runs even with his respectable WHIP. As for SD, they will have an easier task then yesterday as well, as they face Jimenez and his 1.94 WHIP (2.00 away - ouch) and his 5.82 ERA.

Jimenez has allowed only 2 HR in 34 IP and stil has a high ERA of 5.82. Maddux has allowed 5 HR in 44 IP and his ERA is stil un-maddux like at 4.09. Bottom line, these two pitchers can stil get rocked without home runs. And that's the 'key' in this ballpark. You won't get many home runs in this ballpark. As a matter of fact, you need less home runs than in any other ballpark to get over the total. But since this is stil a big pitcher friendly ballpark, you'll need men on bases to get there. And with two rather high WHIP's from today's starter pitchers, 8 runs is not out of reach.

Sure McGowan and Laffey deserve a lot of credit for what they have done this early in the season, but the 'key' word here is 'early'. Their ERA's are great, but they are due for a subpar performance. And why not here, against two offenses that produced 7 runs yesterday against two of the best starters in the AL, Halladay and Sabathia. They combined for 24 Hits and Walks on 17 innings pitched by all combined pitchers yesterday. Despite their great stats YTD, these two pitchers have led their teams to a combined record of 2-7 so far this season, mostly because they were getting no run support whatsoever. These two pitchers faced the likes of, Vazquez, Meche, Bonderman, Mussina, just to name a few. This time around both offenses will feel like getting a break they needed.

I'm kicking myself in the ass for not getting this one earlier, at 8, but at 7.5, it should be a winner as well. Vazquez has been his old himself, dominant in 5 of his last 6 starts and in his career, he's always been good vs Seattle. Washburh has had some issues this season, but mostly on the road. His WHIP has been much better at home. Both teams are struggling offensively right now and I don't see them getting out of that slump against these two starters. Actually the White Sox have scored some runs in 3 of their last 4 games, compared to a real no show in previous 7 games when they failed to score at least 4 runs. The Mariners have scored more than 2 runs only once in last 9 games and that happened against the washed up Millwood.
