Fenway Park - typical.
What an upset Fenway Park is 30th (last) in affordibility with an average ticket price nearly double the league average and also raised for as far as I can see by 10% this year just for the hell of it.
Seriously, a family of four that wants only average seats will spend at least $400 for a night out at Fenway (conservative estimate). Includes parking, programs, souveniers, food and beverage at ballpark, the actual tickets and a decent dinner some where in a 50 mile radius of Fenway after the game.
Go upscale with seats and restaurant and you can drop a dime no problem.
The Pawtucket Red Sox about 45 miles away in Rhode Island are one of the most sucessful triple A teams in the country because if the average man in the street from New England who works for a living making say $40,000 a year wants to take his family of 4 to a real pro baseball game it's Pawtucket or make a huge sacrifice from some where else to pay for seats at Fenway - IF you can get any (forget decent) I'm talking nosebled seats. Average ticket price at Fenway is a whopping $48.80 per seat versus the league avrage of $25.43. (even the Yankees average only $41.40 per ducat which is second highest in MLB).
"A middle class family of four having to drop a week's salary to go to the game." is no exaggeration.
Saving grace is they have an exciting team that wins over 60% of their home games. Of course you can watch that on TV real cheap because they are sold out for the next century.
