The same way Larry Hughes was 1st team All Defense in '04-05 with the Wizards: because he led the league in steals. Nevermind that Hughes wasn't even an adequate on-the-ball defender and played on a team that didn't even pretend to play serious defense and allowed him to gamble on almost every defensive possession for steals.
It is still my assertion that if Juan Dixon (who has as good a feel for making steals as anyone in the NBA) had gotten as much playing time as Larry Hughes, he would've averaged twice as many steals in that defense.

So many times over. Paul made the squad b/c he lead the league in steals and because he is so good on offense (kind of like Jeter and Pujols winning gold gloves every yr).
Paul wouldn't make 10th team all defense if the playoffs were factored in. He isn't playing any.
Billups, Deron Williams and Andre Miller are all better defensive PG's than Paul. Any decent sized PG or guys like Cassell can take Paul into the post at will.
Actually funny to see Paul's name listed there with those 4 other really good defenders.
