Getting Rid of Crackheads?

I live in a middle class neighborhood, condo's in my building go for about 260-300k, a little below average for the Vancouver area but not ghetto by any stretch. Lots of young families and singles, everyone knows everyone, baseball diamonds across the street and a pitch and putt a block down the road. For the most part its great.

But recently one of the owners in the building has either started dealing crack or using his unit as a crack house. So I've got crackheads coming and going at all hours of the day and night. The Strata has tried to get the guy removed but the police said there isn't much they can do because he owns the place and until he's sent to jail for a while he's gonna bring the building down.

The Puppy I bought in December is about 90lbs now and I'm trying to teach him to bark and growl at them but he's only 6 months so he doesn't quite get it yet.

Any suggestions to getting this guy out legally or at least discouraging the crackheads from coming around?

Get a realistic sounding siren of some sort and blast it randomly out your window when you see them around.

Slip a note in his mailbox or under his door letting him know that the cops are well aware of the drug activity and that the building is under surveilence. That ought to get his attention.

Take up smoking crack, it will take your edge off. Plus you'll get to know your neighbors.

Dig through any bylaws and "association" rules that might be in play for the condo and then just be a Dick and start reporting any and all violations to the governing body (if any).

Is there enough of a population (number of units) in this condo community to where you can make such reports with reasonable anonymity?

When you're out front with the dog, deliberately take photos with your cell phone (or digital camera) of everyone coming and going who fits the description.

Many harder core users won't be put off by that, but others might.

-----
Check out dude's (the resident) vehicles and see if any of them are out of order with registrations etc

Then talk to the narcos directly unless you think it might expose you to undue scrutiny (can't recall if you're a cannabis user)

And before anyone jeers given my disdain for Prohibition, I've no problem with discouraging commercial "retail" sales operations in any private residential community if it involves significant traffic in and out of the property.

Such business should be conducted from more appropriate outlets.

first thing you are really going to need to do is find out for a fact if the guy is dealing coke or crack or whatever. i would wait to see him out and tell him you have a bachelor party or something coming up and ask him if he knows where you can score a little coke. seems harmless enough. if you say the cops come and go, you may be completely wrong about the drugs, so you gotta find out for sure before you send a letter or start contacting authorities.

I think instead of trying to get the dealer arrested, you should instead work on getting a needle exchange clinic on your block.

Thus, when people decide to use crack and other drugs, the surrounding area will be a healthier and safer.

Whats the big problem knowing that if people are going to use drugs, arent some people going to sell them drugs?

Now that it happens to be too close to your own home, you are having a problem with it?

cook up some rat poison with baking soda and leave those "special rocks" by their front door - just don't leave any fingerprints on anything

You and your neighbors hire a PI and let him earn his money.

There's already one set up, but it's in an area where there is a much larger population of IDU's, this way it serves the masses in a legal and licenced location and not done in a residential area. I've never seen an Injection site in a residential area...woof have you?

You've got me thinking though, I think I'll start slipping directions to the safe injection site under the door so that they know where to go...

Don't want to kill anyone...some people in the building say the guy is a Pedophile....really that bothers me more than the drug use.

If the cops are the Royal Mounted Police or whoever those guys are that I've seen on those cop shows, I can see why it is still going on.....the guys Ive seen looked and acted like total dumb asses......kind of reminded me of the Fargo cops.

Your attempted wit misses the point here that the challenge is not that people are using crack (allegedly) but that there is a retail sales business operating out of a private residence.

I am confident you would not be interested in having your nearest residential neighbors conducting a retail sales operation out of their home if it meant that there was constant vehicle and foot traffic in and out their doors 24/7

The societal solution here is for cocaine sales to be legalized and made available through licensed outlets just as is currently done with literally 99.99% of other drugs sold in Canada (KingBill's location).

When that happens, a private operator would not be able to financially compete with the licensed outlet.

Users of cocaine - either powder or crack - would gravitate to the licensed outlet just as the users of alcohol, tobacco and pharmaceutical drugs do at present.

SINCE IT'S unlikely for the moment that my solution will be implemented, KINGBILL is left with a limited number of reasonable responses to his neighbor (allegedly) operating a retail sales business out of his home.

Barman, the rx resident champion of ending drug prohibition, is giving advice to another poster (KB) who 100% supports needle exchange programs (paid for via the taxpayers' dime), how to rid a drug dealer and drug users from a residential area.

Needless to say, I find both amusing.

Anyway, my own advice regarding the specific thread question....

KB, try calling your local news channel. They often deal with these types of nuisances.

Maybe they can send a couple cameras out to the guys place during the 11pm showing and broadcast a live drug sale.
