Dude, get in line! There's a lot of people that do exactly what you're planning and my understanding is that hack licenses are not that easy to get.

As for the rental, don't get something sight-unseen. Find something where you can stay for 2 weeks and then look at all the listings. No matter how good it may sound on the web, you're going to want to check out the neighborhood yourself.

I don't live there right now.....but I'm sure stuck plenty there!

I used to live there years ago. You could rent a place at one of the many Budget Suites or something similar until you are gainfully employed and get to know the area. Plenty of people drive taxis to start with. I guess all you need to get to know the area is a GPS.

Vegas can be a lot of fun if you don't get caught up in all the gambling that goes on. Some good handicappers that I know or knew, won a bunch of money sports betting and then blew it all away and then some playing blackjack or craps.

The #1 poster here in post count drove a vegas cab, at least work would be pretty entertaining.

ALSO you could try VALET at a casino as well, they do well, worth a shot.

YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO LOSE getting out of Wisconsin, you can always go back like you never left. Best thing I ever did was leave the Midwest.

My advice is to stay in Wisconsin.

Today I visited one of my good friends at a bar he works at. He would barely talk to me as he was too busy playing the machines with no one else in the place. In the last six months, he's gotten divorced (has three kids), is about to lose his house, and will lose his car as well. He was happy because instead of being down the $800 when I walked in he left work only $15 down.

Of course, I took my best friend to work the other day because she had her car reposessed from gambling all her money away and then she had to bail the father of her kids out of jail from a DUI.

Both of them made twice the salary I made and both asked me how I could afford to not work.

I hear Phoenix is nice.

I was also going to suggest a place besides vegas as well. I've seen many many many a person come back from Vegas not having everything go their way.

Las Vegas serves to magnify the addictions in people. They come here to get away and their problems only increase tenfold.

It's a great place to work and live if you are smart and disciplined. The problem is that is probably less than 2% of the population.

You use to say it was just like any other city outside the strip.....what happened?

I love it here bigbet and it is to a degree. I certainly like where I am at right now.
It's the other people and the things I see with people I consider friends that bother me.

buddylou- Stay where you are or move anyplace but here. Las Vegas is a dump. I wouldn't piss on this city if it was on fire. I'm stuck here but you can go so many places. Las Vegas is a filthy city with more dirtbag people than anyplace in this country. There's way too many people here. The growth is completely out of hand and the traffic is horrendous. The cost of living is way too high for what is a really dumpy place to live. I can understand that you want to move from where you are but do yourself a favor and go someplace that isn't a total shithole like Las Vegas is.

BudL, opinions are like assholes as you can see from the various posts. I did the same thing 10 years ago and never looked back. Yes, if you can't control yourself this town will eat your lunch. However I love living here and will stay till I die. For the most part Vegas doesn't have any more problems than any other city. You can get a 2 bedroom apartment in a nice area for $700 to $800 a month. The school system sucks but that doesn't appear to be a problem for you. I know a guy who is a cabbie, but the only thing I can tell you is he works 12 hour days, owns his own home and seems to be content. Be aware that life as you know it will cease to exsist from June to August every year. Good luck in whatever decision you make. I, like you, had nothing to lose and it worked out for me.
