The league came up with this gimmick to give the Bricks Patrick Ewing. The league is so shitty, they think teams will tank for a college player. I guess nobody has any pride in the NBA.

So, now the Chicago Bulls some how wind up with 1st pick.

Great league David Stern.

i actuallylike the lottery system. doesnt give teams a reason to tank since the worst team has only gotten the first pick in the last 12 seasons.

This year, did they show the actual dropping/selecting of the ping pong balls to determine the draft order...you know, how they do it for real fucking lotteries?

NBA is a fucking joke. It's not real athletic competition; it's pseudo-scripted bullshit.

NBA to sheep: Here we have draft lottery to see who picks first, second, third and so on...you don't get to view the actual lottery, just believe us because we tell you there are representatives of some sort there to make sure everything is on the up and up.

I guess people are calling Ernst and Young liars.

:monsters-

Seriously, show the fucking lottery draw. Why don't they? Would it not make great TV? I'd love to watch that. Show each team's ping pong balls going in the hopper, team by team, draw the top 3...the only thing conspiracy therorists could then say is that they rig the machine somehow to spit out what they want. But this bullshit of not showing the draw smells something awful.

I'd tune in for the draw if they did this and I hate the NBA.

The lottery is the best way to do it to ensure teams don't tank. I actually prefer it to other drafts. It has been iffy but how often do you see a team that looks like it is trying to lose games end up with the top pick? Not often... and I think that's good for the game.

Youd come up with something else even if you saw it with your own eyes. you dont like the league and will find anything you can come up with to reaffirm your point. not much anyone can say or do.

But the obvious question is....why don't they show the lottery? Who here would be interested in watching ping pong balls come out of a hopper to determine who gets Greg Oden, who gets LeBron James, who gets Michael Beasley, etc., etc?

I would love it. I think most basketball fans would love it. I think it's safe to say this would be a highly anticipated event for NBA fans and we all know how the NBA love to schedule and capitalize on the best potential ratings...yet we never get to see those ping pong balls.

Sure, like I said, a conspiracy theorist will find reason to proclaim conspiracy but that doesn't mean there isn't something shady with the draft lottery.

What? How can you say that, teams openly tank at the end of the season to improve their odds in the lottery. Last year with Oden and Durant was probably the best (worst?) example of it with teams resting healthy players under weak excuses.

Never happen in the US, but European style promotion and relegation would be the way to go. It would be easy with basketball, the D League is already in place and there are plenty of other players to make additional multiple levels.

Not familiar with the European style... so I can't argue you there.

Also, what I'm saying is that tanking doesn't automatically guarantee you'll get a great pick like in the NFL. You have a better chance, yes, but so far teams haven't been rewarded for tanking that much.

they tank in the nfl too and they end up getting the pick. at least in the nba you dont get rewarded with tanking with the top pick

Basically there are different levels of teams with the best being akin to MLB, then you have AAA, AA, A, etc., down the line. At the end of the season, the bottom three teams from MLB would be relegated to AAA and the three best teams from AAA are promoted to MLB (there are sometimes playoffs to see who goes up and down, but you get the point), worst from AAA down to AA with the best from AA up to AAA, etc. The main difference between baseball and European soccer is that the teams in AAA, AA and A aren't affiliated with the major league teams so there is no ownership of players like in baseball or the D-League (other than a few guys that are loaned out). So, at the end of the season, teams like Miami, Seattle, the Raiders, 49ers, Royals are fighting for their f*ing lives to stay up instead of tanking games for draft positions.

there is no guarantee of a reward, but you are rewarded, if you tank and go from 8th worst to 6th worst, you have a better chance at a top 3 pick and your downside isn't as bad. Is the NBA better than NFL in this regard, yes, but NBA teams are rewarded for tanking. There is more tanking going on in the NBA than the NFL.

the only problem is in that system there are no playoffs and the top teams like Man U, Munchen, Lyon always win.

Nothing prevents playoffs, that is just the system they use to determine champions. I am more discussing the bottom side. You can have playoffs at the top and not impact the relegation at the bottom. The Mexican soccer league has both playoffs at the top and relegation at the bottom, I think Brazil does too but I don't follow the south american leagues. There are also often playoffs to determine promotion in the lower divisions.
