Let me look at this way:

You buy a conventional car for 25k, it gets 25mpg, and lasts 200k miles.

You'd need 8,000 gallons of gas at say $5 a gallon= 40k

So 65k for the car and gas

How much for the hydrogen car purchase and refueling it ?

It needs to be under that 65k, IMO !

We're still about 10 years from hydrogen technology being able to be mass produced.

the skyrocketing price of oil will fast track Hydrogen fuel cells, its very much inevitable. And then we can tell places like Saudi Arabia and Venezuela to Fuck off and die, don't need you anymore..

I think it will take a good while ( 5+ years) to get here. I haven't seen any prediction of what it will cost to refill/recharge ( whatever) on these. The vehicle cost has to be competitive also.

Hybrids are kinda of a wash right now, cost a lot more than a Civic or similar, for not that much better mileage.

A lot of these things that were supposed to take over, never did:

metric system ( except for dope dealers)
electric car
cashless society
mass transit
etc.
