I saw it last night. Pretty screwed up. It appears those horses who don't run so well end up as food somewhere.

california tracks older/used up horses get sold to the "killers" mexican guys that take them and slaughter them for various reasons.....they pay about 200 a horse.....sad i know but there is a dark side to any sport

Surely (no, I'm not calling you shirley, lol) they can find homes for those horses. They were saying on the show that they have never had any trouble selling the horses for adoption.

To think the great 'Ferdinand' ended this way makes me sick.

Real Sports on HBO is a very well done program. I think it's one of the best sports documentary series that I've seen. Bryant Gumbel is a good host and they have some really good reporters. Bernard Goldberg is my favorite and Frank Deford does a good job as well.

That segment about the horses was tough to watch. I have to admit that I turned my head a few times because there were parts that were very graphic and very sad. As one poster mentioned, there is a dark side to sports and this is certainly one of them They seemed to single out Mountaineer Park which I don't think was entirely fair as this is probably something that happens all over the country. It would be good if all these horses could be adopted and saved but I know that would be difficult to find somewhere for all of them where they could live out their days in a safe and happy place.

I don't get HBO anymore. Is there a place on the net that you can watch Real Sports? It is a great show.
