Long time, no see....

Couple of value plays for the regionals that are no-brainers for me. I use the word value, because this isn't some lock you should unload your account on, just a case where the odds are off and you could put yourself in a good position going forward.

Am not going to promise that I will be posting throughout the college season here, but will do what I can, when I can....

2* Kentucky Wildcats +500 to win Ann Arbor Regional

Nice season by Michigan, but these northern teams just can't make it through a regional with very good baseball schools like 'Zona and Kentucky. Zona feels slighted by being awarded a #1 seed at someone else's regional, and they have the best pitcher in this tournament in Preston Guilmet. But Guilmet hasnt been himself this year and Zona doesnt have that true ace Game 1 pitcher anymore. Zona has to travel out of their element out of the desert where they are 25-5, and head up to the north and they are just 11-12 on the road. Zona started in the top 3 this season, and have since fallen and come down to earth. Kentucky is used to these conditions, they have had a tough schedule, they are one of the most underrated teams in the country and for once this year they dont have the pressure of being the #1 seed. They can relax a bit here as the #3 seed, and come in under the radar. They have an ace for game 1 to get by Michigan and then it is a crapshoot because Kentucky can swing the bats with anyone, they have some big hitters in their lineup, and I am confident they can outslug anyone the rest of the regional.

My Line:

Arizona EV
Kentucky +175
Michigan +375
Eastern Michigan +5000

2* Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets +175 to win Athens Regional

I always talk about the chokers of college baseball and I think FSU and Ga Tech immediately. The Jackets are typically a 1 seed, and a top 5 team in the country with a ton of pressure on them. Here though, they come into Georgia's regional as a 2 seed, already a rival where anything can happen, in an environment that really isnt too bad. Ga Tech beat Georgia this year 11-1, and lost 3-2. Georgia is one of the more overrated teams in the country because they had a point this year where they got hot, and they have been living off of that. The ACC was by far the best baseball conference this year, and Tech is very battle tested here. Georgia has backed into this #1 seed losing 9 of their past 16 and going 2 and BBQ in the SEC tourney.

My Line:

Georgia EV
Georgia Tech EV
Louisville +650
Lipscomb + 5000

1* South Carolina Gamecocks +250 to win Raleigh Regional

South Carolina is one of the top tournament teams in college baseball, and Ray Tanner knows how to coach 'em up when it comes time for regionals, super regionals and Omaha. NC State a bit overrated in my mind, and not a dominant team in this regional. Anything can happen here and I will take the experienced coach, the traditionally hot tournament team, and one of the best offensive players in the country (Smoak) to make some noise here.

NC State EV
South Carolina +150
Charlotte +850
James Madison + 5000

I thought Stanford would be getting more hype, but they are right where they should be. UC Irvine getting respect this year for their small ball, pressure-the-defense tournament style that is winning baseball this time of year. Lean to San Diego in their regional as that is a program on the rise. Lean to Texas as they come in confident after winning their conference title and Rice went 0-2. Texas is a very good tournament team.

Box - Any worries about Louisville in the Athens bracket? The Cards went to Omaha last year and appear to be peaking again - there are lots of similarities from the 2007 and 2008 Louisville units, from what I see.

Good to see you back for college regionals again, tried my luck last week in those conference finals and did pretty well. There are definitely some good lines out there.

Here's a very solid play I stumbled onto;

S. Miss -120/130 over New Orleans. New Orleans is taking a chance and not going with their ace, instead senior right-hander Justin Garcia (6-1, 5.59 era) is the starter. On the flip side New Orleans will start their ace senior Barry Bowden (8-3, 1.62 era). Seems like a no brainer here. Also read an article where S. Miss was irritated New Orleans was saving their ace for LSU, thought they were being overlooked.

Looks like the Cardinals are sending out ace Justin Marks is 9-1 with a 2.21 ERA tomorrow against GTech. Appears like tough going for Tech as Georgia is also holding back their top man for a potential meeting with them on Saturday.

Anywho good luck BS

What's the format of the tourney. Is it like basketball where it's a one and done or is it a round robin tourney?

4 teams in each regional, one emerges to next round.

Its double elimination. Lose twice and you're out.

To Consider

A little something to consider when doing your handicapping.

Regardless of the coaches decision as to the starter for the first game, they do know the importance of being the #1 seed and hosting the regionals. It's like they have a self-imposed thumb pressing down on them to get out of the gate fast in front of the home crowd. They know it's double elimination, but still feel the pressure to get the first win under their belt. As a result, here is some information that may be of use in your decision making process.

Number #1 seeds in the Regionals hosting the tournament in game #1
43-5 SU......L3Y

Number #1 seeds in the Super-Regionals hosting the tournament in game #1
18-6 SU......L3Y

Note:
Omit Michigan as they are the host but seeded #2

Respectfully,

Unfortunately the majority of 1/4 matchups aren't being listed. And if they were the moneylines would be astronomical in some cases.

Only 1/4 matchups listed are Stanford/UC Davis and Long Beach/Fresno. And those 4 seeds are pretty solid.

thks for the heads up Rex, almost forgot about Cris.

5dimes has also added all the games, including moneylines (albeit quite juicy).

Don't know if I agree with the Georgia Tech prediction: They face Justin Marks tonight (ERA ~2.2) and could very easily get pushed to the losers bracket, and they don't have the pitching to get out of the losers bracket. That plus the fact that Louisville is red hot right now (winning 17 of 19, I think).

I think Duncan is starting for Tech (~4.5 ERA).

Tough mountain to climb. Bats must be alive like they were in the ACC Tournament, pitchers must be better than they were.
