I've made a few... I've bet a baseball total because I thought it was in the away team's park. I've read lines wrong and taken the wrong team a few times. Rookie mistakes but they've happened.

I know I've made some dumb ones over the years but what got me thinking about this topic is this...

I have two roommates. We keep a pretty clean house but the dishes were backing up and someone had to do them. Instead of just making one of those lazy bastards do them, I told them we would play a game of Yahtzee to see who got to do them. I had done them like the last four times but figured it would be fun or whatever. Of course I lost and have been the only one doing dishes this week and they went and bought me an apron while I did the dishes. Might be time to upper decker their toilet but that's a thread for another day.

So what's the dumbest bet you've ever made?

Mine is pretty easy, when i was in college at UA we were fresh off an ass whipping by Peyton Manning and the vols of Tennesee. One of my buddies was running his mouth about Peyton and how good he was and how many superbowls he was gonna win bla bla bla.

Just to shut him up I bet him that Peyton would never win a superbowl and I gave him 10-1 odds. He took the bet for 50 and I paid him 500 two years ago, or whenever it was.

Moral of the story is, don't make a bet with the words "never" or "always" unless they are working in your favor.

That is a stupid bet. Peyton would pretty much have to die for me to earn my 50!!!!

Think it was back in 2002 or 2003. Detroit was playing the Red Sox, Detroit was HORRIBLE.

0-0 going into the 9th I think, I was watching CBSsportsline.com updates. I seen a pause in play, then seen the homerun by Detroit, I about puked as my -300 went in the shitter

When UMASS had Camby and they were having that great run. I worked hard to get my bal up to 1500. I'm just a kid. 1500 is a lot. I bet the whole bal on Georgetown +8 in the elite 8 and they didnt cover. 86-62 Umass final.

Just incredibly stupid.

Patriots -14 in this year's SB.

I knew it was a loser when I put it in, thus it was only a $ 100 action waiver.

If I wasn't a Pats fan, I probably pound the Giants and probably take a little money line action to boot.

A couple years ago there was a prop when Annika Sorenstam played in the PGA. All she had to do was make the cut and it was something insane like +400 (maybe higher, the exact number escapes me). I took it and she missed - total sucker bet from the beginning.

Pinnacle had a bet that the Gavel Goat,,a large statue in Denmark or some were in those parts would be Burned down by xmas..I had no idea what Iw as betting, but took the yes, because it had been burned like 5 of the last 6 years. LOSER!

The neat thing was there was a web came so you could check to see if it was trashed or not!

Here is an older story on it!

Burning the Goat, the Swedish Christmas Tradition

WILLEMSTAD, Curacao, December 5 /PRNewswire/ --

- PinnacleSports.com Post Odds on Vandals Destroying Goat of Gavle by Christmas

For the past 40 years, the small Swedish town of Gavle has erected a giant straw goat to mark the start of the festive season. And every year since 1966, vandals have tried to destroy the goat, creating what has become an annual Christmas ritual of attempting to destroy the straw goat. Now for the first time in the custom's history, PinnacleSports.com is allowing people to bet on whether the giant goat of Gavle will survive through Christmas Day.

As the tradition goes, vandals attempt to destroy the 13-meter (43 foot) high goat usually within days of its creation, with arson being the preferred method, and only 10 times since 1966 has the goat survived intact through Christmas Day. Just last year, two culprits dressed as Father Christmas and a gingerbread man got close enough to the goat to burn it down using flaming arrows. Although constructor's claim this year's goat is completely fire-proof, PinnacleSports.com believes the straw statue will once again be destroyed before Christmas.

While local townspeople have declared that "nobody will get their goat this year," the oddsmakers at Pinnacle Sports think otherwise, listing the odds of the goat's demise prior to Christmas Day as a 2/3 favorite (i.e., win US$2 for every US$3 bet). Meanwhile, the odds that the statue will remain unharmed and the townspeople of Gavle will awaken with their goat intact on Christmas morning are a slight underdog at 7/5.

"Each year the town of Gavle erects an enormous goat to celebrate the festive season, which commences the battle between vandals trying to destroy the structure and those protecting the goat," said Simon Noble of PinnacleSports.com. "Despite coating this year's straw statue in a waterproof, flame-retardant coating, odds are the goat will go up in smoke before Christmas again this year."

The bet offer at PinnacleSports.com is on whether the straw goat of Gavle survives until the stroke of Midnight Central European Time (CET) on the night of December 24th to 25th. If the goat is toppled, removed, withdrawn, or otherwise destroyed before that moment, all bets will be settled as the goat having not lasted until Christmas. Should the goat undergo onsite repairs without being removed from its moorings, while always remaining intact without being toppled on its side, the goat is deemed to be happy, healthy and lasting.
