2008 MLB Head2Head Challenge

Let's have some fun guys. This should be cool...

An announcement concerning prizes will be coming soon.

Ok, here's the rules...

Starting Sunday, June 1st, an 8-day Play For Postion (P4P) Round will get under way. There will be a 15 play minimum for this round only. This will determine seedings for matchplay which starts the following week. You will then be matched with an opponent based on your seeding for a one week elimination round. For the P4P Round only, anyone who falls under the minimum (15) will be assessed a loss of -110 for each play short. However, anyone who does not make a pick throughout the P4P Round will be eliminated from any further competition. Also, should 2 or more players be tied after this round, the tiebreaker to determine higher seed will be best record for last five (L5) plays made. If still tied, the player with most total plays will get the nod.

All elimination rounds will run from Monday to Sunday. Note the Round of 8 will be broken up into 2 sessions around the All Star Break. No games from July 10-16. As an added option for the 2 Week Championship Round, there will be multi-unit wagering available for the 2 finalists. More details on that when the time approaches.

The schedule is as follows:

Code:
P4P Round		June 1-8
Round of 128:		June 9-15
Round of 64: 		June 16-22
Round of 32:		June 23-29
Round of 16:		June 30-July 6
Round of 8: 		July 7-9 and 17-20 (7 Day All-Star Break)
Semi-Finals:	 	July 21-27
Championship Final: 	July 28-Aug 10

For grading purposes it is imperative that you use Rotation #'s with your picks. ONLY Rotation #'s will be used to grade selections! The Rotation # you use for each selection is your selection regardless of what team you type beside the Rotation #.

  • Winners of each round, based on total winnings, will continue on, losers go home. Should opponents be tied at week's end, the higher seed will be declared the winner.

  • YTD records will carry-over and be used for reseeding. Matchups for the next round will then be determined, high seed vs low seed and so on. Weekly records will be reset to 0.

  • Lines will be posted daily, usually in the night before. Late openers will not be added. Any plays made on games OTB will be graded 'no action'.

  • Plays on Dogs are to risk $100. Plays on Favorites are to win $100.

  • Moneylines, Runlines and Totals will be available for action.

  • All plays are action regardless of any change(s) in starting pitchers.

  • When wagering on Totals (over/under), the game must go 9 innings (8.5 if the home team is ahead) to have action. If a game is called or suspended in extra innings, the score will be determined after the last full inning unless the home team scores to tie, or takes the lead in the bottom half of the inning, in which case the score is determined at the time the game is called.

  • Rules for RunLine wagers are the same as those for Totals.

  • The result of a game is official after 5 innings of play unless the home team is leading after 4.5 innings. If a game is called or suspended, the winner is determined by the score after the last full inning unless the home team scores to tie, or takes the lead in the bottom half of the inning, in which case the winner is determined by the score at the time the game is called.

  • If the home team ties the game and it is then suspended, the play will be no action. No carry over to the next day.

  • One and only one post allowed. Additional posts for add-ons will be ignored.

  • Deadline to post will be 5 minutes prior to the posted start time of the first game on your playlist. If any plays are posted past the deadline, they will be no action. Only plays posted on time will be graded. Editing will be permitted in the first 5 minutes - no reason needed.

  • There is a maximum 3 plays per day.

  • Pay particular attention here! A 10 play minimum per round is mandatory to avoid disqualification. There will be no added games in case of rainouts. If on Sunday, your play is rained out causing you to fall under the minimum, you are dq'd! It would be in your best interest to have 10 plays in prior to Sunday to avoid this happening. There is no maximum. Anything between 10 and 21 is allowed. It's your choice. All plays will count.

[SIZE=+2]No Copy Rule[/SIZE]

Starting with the Round of 32, a No Copy Rule will go into effect every Saturday and Sunday and will be enforced. If you make a RL, ML or O/U play on the same game as your opponent, it must be on the opposite side. In addition, if your opponent has already made a play on the RL (dog) for Team 1, you are prohibited from playing the ML on that same Team 1. Conversely, if your opponent has made a play on the ML (dog) for Team 2, you may not play the RL (+1.5) for that same Team 2. First player to post, obviously has choice. Any violations will be graded as explained below:

The violation: Making the same exact play as your opponent:
  • If the play in question is a winner, the offending player gets a push, his opponent gets the win.

  • If the play is a loser, the offending player gets the loss, his opponent gets a push.

The violation: Playing the ML (fav) on the same team your opponent already played the RL (dog):
  • If the game is a RL win, the offending player will only get a push while his opponent gets a win.

  • If the game is a RL loss but a ML win, both players will receive a push.

  • If the game is both a RL loss and a ML loss, both plays are scored normally.

The violation: Playing the RL (fav) on the same team your opponent already played the ML (dog):
  • If the game is both a RL win and a ML win, the offending player will only get a push while his opponent gets a win.

  • If the game is a RL win but a ML loss, both players will receive a push.

  • If the game is both a RL loss and a ML loss, both plays are scored normally.
Don't forget, editing is allowed for 5 minutes after posting. If you see you inadvertently posted a play already used by your opponent, you have time to go back and change it. Making a second post will not be allowed, however.

Emailing picks will not be allowed.

[SIZE=+2]Championship Round[/SIZE]

1. The Final Round will run for 2 weeks: Mon July 28 thru Sun August 10.

2. Minimum of 20 plays to qualify for the title. Play more than 20 if you wish, it's your choice. All plays will count.

3. Multi-unit plays will be allowed. You will have the option of making:

(1) 3 unit play
(1) 2 unit play
(1) 1 unit play

for a possible 6+ units per day. You must designate your multi-unit plays with stars *** or parentheses ( ).

4. There remains a 3 play max per day.

5. Copying your opponent's picks will be prohibited for the entire final round. Should there be an infraction, the following penalties will be assessed.

Each offense will be penalized according to the amount wagered and outcome of the play in question:
  • If the play is a winner, the offending player gets a push, his opponent gets the win X the weight of his wager.
  • If the play is a loser, the offending player gets the loss X the weight of his wager, his opponent gets a push.

6. Editing is allowed for 5 minutes after posting. If you see you inadvertently posted a play already used by your opponent, you can go back and change it. Making a second post will not be allowed.

7. Should the two players be tied at the end of the contest, there will be a one day 5 play max sudden death playoff where all final round rules will apply.

Any amendments will be posted below.

Good luck guys...

Will we be re-seated after the first round?
It's all spelled out in post 1 above...

YTD records will carry-over and be used for reseeding. Matchups for the next round will then be determined, high seed vs low seed and so on. Weekly records will be reset to 0.

JOH,

My opponent for this round (woodog22) and I agree on one rule addition for the future rounds. Today, I could have taken one specific way that still would have been good within the rules in any round to guarantee myself of a win. To illustrate our situation:

woodog22 (down by 421 points) posted 1st:

Going 3-0 would have given him +428 points to overtake me by 7 points if I did not make a post today. (Also, his best 2-1 combination would net him +200.)

=====
Even with the "No Copy" rule in effect starting in the next round, I could have guaranteed myself a win if I chose LAD on the moneyline:

"978 Los Angeles Dodgers C.Billingsley -158"

If LAD won by 2 or more runs, we both would have won (him winning the RL of +136, while I win +100 on the ML), and his 2 other picks would have not caught me.

If LAD lost, he'd have lost -100 on the RL, and I'd have lost -158 on the ML.

Results: I could have "copied/mirrored" his pick and cheated my way to a win knowing that the other picks wouldn't matter as the margin would be in my favor.
=====

I recommend the rule to be changed from:

"Starting with the Round of 32, a rule against copying your opponent's picks on Saturdays and Sundays will be enforced. If you use the same game as your opponent, it must be the opposite side. This goes for all 3 options, ML, RL and Totals. First player to post, obviously has choice. There are more than enough plays to choose from, so this should not be a problem. Emailing picks will not be allowed."
