Horrible stop, especially considering how badly Kimbo had looked so far.

Sickening....I guess this will be no different that the Don King scam that boxing has become.

I had the same thought, all you have to do is get to the referee, and the fix is in.

I didn't want to see it stopped, that being said, this idiot shouldn't be in the ring with cauliflower ear that bad, thats just asked to get a fight stopped. That thing was pretty gross looking

I agree-I've never seen an ear that fucked up before. That thing was nasty.

Rev, yeah-your right....but he was being primed to be the next poster child for the UFC, and he's a joke.

Not UFC. Its EliteXC pretty big difference.

Very true-this was really a bush league production. Kind of embarrassing for MMA in general, at least for the people who have never seen a real UFC event.

If the UFC ran a solid freebie card on network tv, they'd make a mint on PPV going forward.

Kimbo got exposed badly last night-the UFC big wigs have to be sick.

The only thing the UFC has to be sick about is that spectacle is how first time viewers will judge all of MMA. Everyone knew that Kimbo would never be anything in MMA, especially if he were ever given a chance in UFC (unlikely before, now, never). If you want to see what would happen to Kimbo should he ever get into the ring with a legit MMA fighter, watch what happened to Houston Alexander. He mauled Jardine and Alessio Sakara and Thiago Silva destroyed him.

Since when do you stop a fight for a bloody ear when the other fighter is still standing and coherent?

Here is Joe Stevenson a few UFC's ago... he eventually got choked out but this one wasn't stopped for blood.

is the UFC affiliated with EliteXC at all fellas? I don't think it is. I agree about the stoppage but I think the reason this guy is in EliteXC is cos the boys in the UFC knew he was a bust.

The UFC mention was initially my fault. I tend to group all of MMA together, which is seriously wrong when you see the difference between an extremely professional UFC event put on vs. a rather amateur gig like last night.

Hopefully the exposure to the masses outshined the BS.

No, EliteXC isn't related to the UFC. UFC & WEC are a joint venture I believe.

Yep correct. WEC is being built up to eventually compete with the UFC but for the most part, the UFC keeps their best fighters in the big leagues. The Urijah Faber/Jens Pulver fight tonight should be a good one although I think Faber is just ahead of about anyone at that weight class. The only main difference between the two organizations is that the WEC has one weight class that is smaller than the UFC's smallest.

So what happened in the 3rd round? I went to the Rays game last night and recorded it. Just got done watching it, but I didn't record long enough. Stopped as both guys were going to their corner after the 2nd. They stopped it? why?

Kimbo landed a few big punches, staggered Thompson and popped his cauliflower ear. He was staggered but still standing and it was stopped. Quick stoppage. Kimbo probably would have blasted him a couple more times and knocked him down/out, but was an early stop. Dodgy stoppage, one you would expect when their meal ticket was in danger of losing.

Accurate description. Dodgy stop at best-and yes, their meal ticket had looked like a big, lazy out of shape ghetto brawler-go figure.

I'm sure it did-and that just makes it that much more of a shame that it was such a minor league production.

spot on, sadly this will be the first introduction to MMA for many and they will judge all of it based on this.

That was the first time I've watched anything like this and thought it was pretty cool. In fact I'm watching the fight on VS right now.

ding ding ding. what elite is doing is getting people who were not watching the UFC or the WEC and showing them a mediocre product, but a product that still peaks their interest.

they then tune into the awesome event the WEC just put on and they are able to differentiate b/w a crappy product and a great one.
