White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen's intemperate remarks have become the stuff of legend and unfortunately, it's beginning to define him as a manager.

The White Sox still lead their division even after a close loss to the Rays yesterday but Guillen was on a rant following a 4-3 10-inning loss at Tampa Bay.

During his post-game routine where he hit the occasional blue note, as is his habit, Guillen questioned everyone on the team, including himself, and then put the ball in general manager Kenny Williams' court when he said: "I expect [general manager] Kenny [Williams] to do something Tuesday.

Because if we don't do anything Tuesday, there's [going to be] a lot of change in the lineup. That's all I'm going to say about the offense."

Williams' response in an email, the GM said/wrote/texted: "It's just not a good idea to throw your boss under the bus, especially when that boss has had your back as much as I have had his. I expect this team, if the leadership remains positive and the players stick together and continue to play hard, it will be a fun summer."

So there you have it, Guillen just has to learn how to have fun.

OZZIE should be accustomed to being on the losing end at Tropicana Field following his short stint here as the DRays SS late in his playing career.

classless asshole that shouldn't have a job in this league. Send him to Venezuela and I'm sure they'll love his antics there.

Maybe Ozzie should be running more than Sox

By Mike Imrem | Daily Herald Columnist

As successful as the White Sox were the past week, Ozzie Guillen's management style is sure to spread.
Like, maybe to George Bush:
"I'm sick and tired of these gas prices, and if Congress doesn't do something by Tuesday I'm going down to the corner station and rip the '4' off $4.29 myself."
If Guillen were Bush, by midweek we'd be paying less for gas than the Saudis.
Then maybe to Sam Zell:
"The state better buy Wrigley Field in 48 hours because if it doesn't I'm going to Springfield on Tuesday and turn Blago's rear end into an ATM."
If Guillen were Zell, taxpayers would be paying for Wrigley renovations by next winter.
Finally maybe to Tom Skilling:
"I'm giving Jerry Taft until Tuesday to cancel that tornado or I'll go out there myself and blow it back to Oklahoma."
If Guillen were Skilling, Chicago would be San Diego within hours.
Seriously, a week ago today, the biggest White Sox issue was Guillen's rant that indicted him, the club's entire offense, hitting coach Greg Walker, general manager Kenny Williams, Babe Ruth, the Olsen twins and some guy whose name is Earl.
"I'm sick and tired to watch this thing for a year-and-a-half," was one of Guillen's softer proclamations. "I'm not protecting anybody anymore."
It isn't a recommended management style. Guillen alienated Walker, his former Sox teammate and friend of more than 20 years.
"We don't have to (talk)," Guillen said. "I'm excited for him. I know he sleeps well the last three nights."
Actually, everybody associated with the Sox' offense slept well all week after being awakened by Guillen or something else.
Their latest assault on opposition pitchers came during Sunday's 12-2 victory over Minnesota.
Since Guillen's tirade, the first-place Sox have gone 6-0 on a homestand that will end this afternoon against the Twins.
The Sox' run totals in those six games were 9-6-6-10-11-12 -- please, someone in the audience yell BINGO! They're spewing hits in quantities that make opponents scream MERCY!
"No," Guillen quickly said when asked whether the scoring outburst could be attributed to his harsh words.
OK, so maybe coming back home to Comiskey Park, warmer weather and vulnerable pitching is more responsible.
But come on, it's a much better story if Guillen's shrill voice led to Nick Swisher, Paul Konerko and the rest beginning to roll.
"We have talent here," Guillen said Sunday morning. "We have better talent than we showed."
Williams has been saying the same thing all along. Of course, one week doesn't make him correct, but the Sox sure did indicate their best is very good.
Assuming, of course, that it can't get any better.
"We were waiting for this," Guillen said after the Sox recorded 15 or more hits in three straight games for the first time since 1932. "When we broke (spring training), this is what I thought I was going to have."
Listen, Guillen's management style probably wouldn't succeed in politics, business or meteorology. The Sox might have started hitting because of him, in spite of him, or most likely neither of the above.
All that matters is the Sox are getting hits on bombs, bunts and bloops. Everything is falling into holes or flying out of the park.
George Bush, Sam Zell and Tom Skilling should be so fortunate.

Guillen at it again on subject of Wrigley Field
By Tim Sassone | Daily Herald Staff
Published: 6/20/2008 12:06 AM
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has a love-hate relationship with the Cubs series.
"I love this game from the national anthem to the last out, that's it," Guillen said Thursday. "Besides that it's a bunch of (bleep).
"Believe me, when the game starts it's an unbelievable feeling. There's not a feeling like that, maybe the World Series."
But what Guillen could do without is the media hype and Wrigley Field, and not exactly in that order.
Guillen's disdain for Wrigley Field has been well documented, but it will be the epicenter of Chicago baseball for the next three days as the first-place White Sox and first-place Cubs go head to head.
There isn't a nook or cranny of Wrigley Field that Guillen hasn't torched over the years, and he was at it again Thursday, calling it a tourist attraction and comparing the place to the Statue of Liberty.
"One thing about Sox fans, they show up to watch the game," Guillen said. "Some people go to Wrigley Field, I'm not going to say everyone, they go to Wrigley from Europe, from Paris - they want to be a tourist.
"I'm not saying Cubs fans don't have legit fans. It's like when you go to New York and you want to visit the Statue of Liberty. It's the same thing that happens with Wrigley Field. You come to this town and everybody wants to take a look at it, go to the game and go to the ballpark and see the Cubs. Even the family I brought in from Caracas, they want to take a look at Wrigley Field."
As much as Guillen would like to say these are just six more games on the schedule, he knows how much they mean to the fans on both sides of town.
"I dislike it more as a manager, but don't get me wrong: It's a great thing for the city. It's an awesome thing for the fans," Guillen said. "It's an unbelievable feeling when you go out and the people in the street talk to you about this series, no matter if it's Cubs fans or White Sox fans.
"I don't think the New York series (Yankees vs. Mets) series is bigger than this series. With all due respect to the New York fans, this series here I can't believe it's as important to the fans. It's crazy about how people beg you to beat (the Cubs) and don't worry about the season."
In recent days Guillen has met with those players who have yet to experience Sox-Cubs, such as Nick Swisher, telling them what to expect.
"I talked to a couple players that weren't here and said it's going to be different than what you've seen in the past," Guillen said. "This is lights out."
It will be Swisher's first trip ever to Wrigley Field even though his father, Steve, was a catcher with the Cubs in the 1970s.
"I think I drove by it once and someone said, 'Oh, yeah, that's Wrigley Field,' " Swisher said. "I'm getting pretty excited about getting in there. The place is going to be electric, and we're ready for it. I've already told my dad he better have the right colors on."

That's his point. Oh brother are you a Cub fan I'm guessing haha.

People don't necessarily go to the game for the love of the Cubs or for the game itself. They go to the game for the stadium.

Also he is agreeing that it is a tourist attraction. All he is saying is that the Cubs have more fans that aren't paying attention than other teams do. Same with Fenway Park.

Taking it a little personally huh?

how does he know how many are paying attention?

lets see...
cubs avg. per game = 40,344
cws avg. per game = 27,771
so by his logic there are 12,000+ "tourists" per game

maybe if he wouldnt shoot his mouth off all the time people would realize that they have been in first place for a while

You're going to argue that there aren't a lot of tourists at Cubs games? When did Ozzie say that the Cubs draw more fans because of it? All he said was there are a lot more tourists there then there is at Comiskey.

Do you understand that you're juts looking to argue now, because that comment is very very true.

Also Ozzie is an idiot who has more World Series as a coach then the Cubs have in 100 years? He also is the same idiot who takes all the pressure off his slumping players by bringing it on himself.

He's also the same idiot who has a 1st place team that was picked to finish last.

You think the Sox give a shit if people realize they're in first on June 20th? No. Ozzie is one of the best managers in the game and has one World Series as a coach and 1 as the manager. I'd say Ozzie knows what he's doing.

There is a reason his players love him and they seem to perform better than they should for him. Keep hating but eventually you'll be proven wrong again.

How the hell does he detract people from coming to the game? What are you talking about man. Since Ozzie has gotten here attendance has been up. They average a lot more fans now than they used to. I don't know what the hell you're talking about but you're making shit up.

It's not like people that would go to games are like; Wait are the Sox in first place? I don't know because Ozzie went off. Well then I guess we shouldn't go to the game. Come on man get a clue.

You're just talking out of your ass now. If anything his actions and loud mouth nature has led to more people coming to the games.

Oh and since he got here they have won a lot more SO they draw more fans that way as well. Please stop talking out of your ass. You don't have to like the Sox or Ozzie, hell I hate the Cubs, but you should at least not make shit up. I respect Lou and think he's a great manager and I thought that when he used to have tons of antics as well. That opinion hasn't changed. Stop looking for things that aren't there.

He may have increased attendance in Chicago, but i think the baseball community as a whole don't appreciate his antics.

Who gives a shit? I don't give a shit what the baseball world as a whole thinks of Ozzie. All I care about is that he continues to win and the fans of the White Sox support him like he was a cult hero.

Acts like his wear out. It almost did last year, and from what I heard you White Sox fans wanted to throw him and Williams under the bus.

Williams wears on me and he either makes brilliant trades or horrific ones.

Ozzie never wears on me. I know he cares and wants to win more than anyone. He cares about the team and his players. That doesn't wear on me. I never wanted Ozzie gone and I probably never will. He has dedication and heart. That's all I can ask for.

Williams is very thinned skinned and as a General Manager he isn't professional. Your manager doesn't need to be Mr. Right. He is honest and that's all I can ask for.

You're right about Williams. Think Reinsdorf would like to have 12,000 tourists every night at his park? What Williams said downgrades the Cub fans.

Hell yeah Jerry would take it. I actually think it'd bother Kenny and Ozzie if they felt that fans weren't into the games at their park. They don't care if there is 28k there instead of 38k if the 28k is a louder bunch.

Yeah Kenny has always struck me as someone that doesn't handle his job well but he's done it pretty well. His actions when Frank Thomas left was the beginning of the end of Kenny for me. That guy did more for this organization than anyone ever and he should have gone out of his way to show him respect.
