I received a mailing from a local KIA dealer, scratch off a hidden number, if it matches the given number, you win, no purchase necessary.

$100
$1,000 shopping spree
65" TV
Honda TRX700xx
2008 Kia Spectra

one of the above.

a key came with it.

What's the scam ?

Is the shopping spree only good in their showroom or something ?

No, not a scam. Suspect the $1,000 shopping spree is basically worthless (bet it's if you buy a new car). Went to a couple of these around my neighborhood before, was a number and you would win either $1,000, new car, $10,000, or an umbrella (guess what I won). My brother worked at a dealership that had this type of promotion and they have insurance in case someone with the winning number does show up. Good luck!

I guess I'll go then.

Is matching the number unusual ?

Might be some fine print that says you have to take a test drive.

Mine matched too. There's another number you have to match to actually win.

I think I found the catch:

Above my name on the address label ( in small print) it says winning number:105975

In a different place it says ( large print):

Winning number: 325127

right under that it says " If the winning number above matches the number you scratched off you have definitely won one of these 5 prizes.

my scratch number is 325127

says cash.

I called them ( again), even though it says no calls please.

Second guy seemed straighter. Seems you likely win the $1,000 shopping spree, which is online somewhere is about all I could get out of them.

So the $100 cash seems better than the $1,000 spree.

scam,IMO !

I might drop by by Sat, so I can see what this scam is, and likely make a scene and clear out the showroom if this a scam.

They're basically paying you $100 to sit through their bullshit presentation-kind of like a timeshare sales pitch.

I don't think you get the $100, you get the $1,000 spree which is probably worth nothing.

Not like a timeshare. You walk in and try the key in the car. Then they match up the number to the prize, receive your shopping spree and walk out.
