5 Dimes - Bounced Checks???

Last Wednesday (May 28th) I woke up to see $1000 mysteriously withdrawn from my bank account. Somewhat concerned as there was no description to go along with the transaction I called the bank....

They informed me that a check I had deposited on November 5th had bounced and they just got it back as non-payable.

Knowing that this was a check from 5Dimes, I immediately called them to let them know that the check had bounced. They asked for a copy of the documents from my bank, which I told them they would receive as soon as I got a copy.

I called the bank back to ask that they fax me a copy of the letter they had sent through the mail, but they said they could not do that.

As soon as I received the letter from the bank on Tuesday, I emailed a scanned copy over to 5Dimes as requested.

The first response said they would have to do a trace on the check, but the accounting department already had my info and was proceeding with the trace.

The past two days I have been told that it should be completed that afternoon only to find out they haven't and to check back the next day. (Ihave copies of all of my emails back and forth with them)

I've never had an issue with 5 Dimes before, but this is starting to aggravate me beyond belief. On top of that I come to find out that someone else had the same issue recently.

Thankfully, I did not incur any charges for overdraft, but having a $1000 disappear from your bank account is not fun....especially at the beginning of the month when all of my bills are due.

Add to the perceived lackadaisical effort I have received from 5Dimes is further agitating me. I have only requested 1 payout from them in the last 2 years (this one) so its not like they have to search trhough dozens of checks for me and they have had a copy of the documents from my bank for over 2 days.

My hope is that they can wrap this up and get the funds to me by tomorrow....if not, I don't know what to do.

I believe that this was an isolated incident, hopefully 5dimes or Wil will come into this thread and respond. You can search for other threads on this topic.

This was a check from Nov that only bounced now? That's a little odd. Checks will usually clear A LOT faster than that - should be closer to 6 weeks, not 6 months.

Yea, 6 months is very weird. Hell, Even 6 weeks for a check to clear is a lot. 2-3 weeks max is what is should be and what it was when I was cashing checks from sportsbooks(not 5 dimes though)

And if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true..

I've cashed over 20 checks from 5 dimes and have never had one bounce. A check dosen't take 6 months to clear. Never heard of it taking that long before. There must be an issue with your bank account.

I have cashed 5 checks from 5 Dimes since May 1st and have not had any problems. And by cashed, i mean going to BofA, the Bank they were drawn upon and actually cashing them, instead of depositing them into my account. I am sure everyone know that the bank will NOT cash the check if the funds weren't available.

The letter I got back from the bank lists the reason as "Account Closed"

As I said, I have never had an issue with 5Dimes before and have also cashed numerous checks from them without issue.

I am guessing that this is an isolated incident, but at the same time, there is now way this is back on me, I deposited the check the day the Fed Ex dropped it and never thought anything else of it. I do no have any sort of CC Chargebacks or any other issues.

I welcome Will or 5Dimes to come in and verify my account of this story....I remain somewhat confident that this situation will be rectified....I simply am not happy at which the pace it is proceeding.

Let's make all the facts clear here:

This is a check from 6 months ago.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
There was no issue brought to 5Dimes attention until May 28th.
The client had no details (check number, issuing company, tracking number) regarding his check.

It took the client until June 3 (six days later) to provide us this information. Immediate threats of posting in forums are made unless the funds are made available in his account and an immediate money transfer be made to him. No funds are posted or sent.
The customer is informed a trace takes time. An answer from the check the processor is expected on Friday June 5 (two days later).

Less than 48 hours after presenting us with the details of the check, the check processor has released the funds back to 5Dimes. The funds are in the client’s account.
