Just saw the replay on NESN. Manny and Youklis

Remy and the other announcer kept saying they were stunned because Manny is so low key. Youklis seemed suprised by it too. Will be interested to hear what lead up to this

Saw the same thing in a bar. We'll have to read the Globe tomorrow--I don't think anyone had a clue what happened.

Just another instance of 24 players busting their asses, and Manny being Manny.

How About Someone Putting Manny "In His Place"

Which would be on his arrogant lazy ass! This CS is goofy. Is he a great hitter? Of course, one of the 2 or 3 best RH in the last 25 yrs. But putting up w/his antics no matter how great he is, must be a pain in the ass on a daily basis. Would I want him on my club YES, would I associate w/him F NO!!!

Pleez, give me a break.

So many people(most all of which are fans of other teams), make Manny out to be such a horrible person, teammate, etc., etc.............when in reality, it is just the opposite from my observations of watching him and from what I've read about him and what his teammates say about him.

The guy takes a piss inside the green monster.............OH MY GOD, HOW TERRIBE.:nopityA:

The guy has a drink in a motel with a visiting player........OH MY GOD, HOW TERRIBLE. :nopityA:

The guy makes a few bonehead plays in the outfield during the course of the season..........OH MY GOD, WHAT A HORRIBLE DEFENSIVE PLAYER HE IS.:nopityA:

The guy stands for 5 seconds and watches a 494 foot homer.........OH MY GOD, WHAT A WAY TO SHOW AN OPPONENT UP.:nopityA:

The guy doesnt get involved in a brawl(as a DH), OH MY GOD, WHAT A BAD TEAMMATE. :nopityA:

Meanwhile, the guy is sitting with two championship rings, has performed in front of more sellout crowds probably than any player(in Clev and Bos), will hit 600+ homers, possibly be the all-time RBI career leader, possibly have hit more grand slams than anyone, probably never taken steroids, never beat up is wife or been in any kind of remotely serious trouble with the law, is known to be one of the most generous players in the game and is well liked by opposing players as much as anyone, and is actually a fairly decent leftfielder through hard work(especially in Fenway), and loves to have fun playing the game and is great entertainment for what is an entertainment product first and foremost, MLB baseball.

As a Red Sox fan, I was delighted when the Bosox acquired Manny.

In closing, thanks for the entertainment Manny and providing the Red Sox with not one, but two championships.

Antics are part of the game in this age of bigtime sports.

Look at many of the big stars in the different sports, plenty can be accused of showing of various antics. Kobe, Iverson, Pedro, Rasheed Wallace, Terrell Owens, Shaq, all the baseball steroid suspects, Michael Vick (beyond antics) etc. etc.

My point is top of the market players are all multi millionaires and that is bound to have an effect on their beaviour in a lot of cases. Sure it would be nice if Manny would be the Dominican Chipper Jones but it is not happening, so we learn to live with it.

For that matter especially in baseball antics are nothing new starting with Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb and a bunch of others like the Old Gas House Gang in St Louis, led by the Dean Brothers, Dizzy and Paul..

Silver7, I really do understand what you are saying, I am old school like you are but to be honest I would rather have a playoff team everyear with an occasional win it all thrown in, even if it means Manny like antics in place of plain vanilla teams like Baltimore, LA Dodgers, San Diego Padres or the Seattle Mariners for example - as a fan.

Fish, you really wrote with that post! Kind of inspiring. And you make a good point. As does Wil.

I'm sure these two knuckleheads will be ok after after some cool down time.

Remember the year when the Giants went to the WS Jeff Kent and Barry Bonds hated each other so much it almost over shadowed what was going on in the games.

Wasn't Manny the one who demanded to be traded in 2003, 2005, and 2006? Guess the legions of fans are not enough. And yes, Manny was a total pud showing up the Orioles on his 500th. And yes, his not not going out with his team is bush too, unless he was in the trainers office. The bullpen pitchers can make the trip to the field, why can't Manny? I'm sure Youklis wasn't the only one on the team who thought that.

Obviously he didn't "demand" a trade.

A Red Sox source told ESPNdeportes.com that the cause of the dugout disagreement was Youkilis' temper following a poor at-bat.

"It all happened because Manny complained about Youkilis' habit of throwing bats, helmets and other objects in the dugout when he has a bad at-bat, something that has become a constant practice," the source said.

"Other players have told Youkilis in the past about the situation, which makes him look selfish and that he is more worried about each at-bat than about the team. If Boston is winning easily, there's no reason to throw objects all over the dugout because of a bad at-bat.

"There was a meeting where the team let Youkilis know that many of his teammates were tired of his explosive reactions for each bad plate appearance. It became very bothersome … more so when the team is winning and it's in first place. There's not much room for individualistic attitudes."
